SOURCE: Whirlpool washing machine - F51 code

F51 - This is a motor Rotation Positioning Sensor failure. If this persists you will eventually need to call in a service engineer to repair it as the machine will eventually stop working altogether.

SOURCE: Odor problems with whirlpool front load washer

Is the smell of mildew?

Run the washer on empty with beach and soap.

This is a common problem when the front door is left closed after use.

When the washer is not in use leave the front door cracked open. This will help in preventing mold & mildew.

SOURCE: While washing heavy load (towels) spin cycle

I had exactly the same problem, sound and everything. I just pulled the front off the washer and discovered that I half mooned shaped, big hunk of concrete was broken in half and hanging down rubbing who knows what. I'm sure it's just a weight to help make it stable while spinning. I don't know if the broken concrete is a result of another problem or not. I'm going to try to find a replacement and install it myself and see if it's fixed. I can just hope.

Pull out the reciept. Read the info that came with it. Call for warranty service OR if possible, return it to store fro exchange or refund. Some appliances cannot be returned to store, therefore read blurb first.

Amana Washer NTW4501XQ0. I have replaced the lid switch, and the timer. The washer still will not run thru an entire cycle. What should I try next

You can try recalibrating unit. With your dial setting at the 12 o'clock position on the timer, you want to do these steps within 7 seconds. Turn timer knob left one time, 3 rights, one left, one right.
Then you will see all the lights blink. ( no time constraints after you see lights blink) Turn the knob 4 clicks to the right, then push the start button. Let it run until you hear the lid unlock and you see the done light lit up. When you replaced the timer, you needed to recalibrate the unit.

LID LOCKER KEEP FLASHING

Hi,

This is a top loading washing machine. Initially, you may want to check the lid/cover ans see if it does not seat properly. There is a switch that has to be engaged when the cover is fully/correctly closed. If not, the switch will lit the warning light as you see it and prevent any further action from the machine.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Mw511, continuous beep, lights 3,4,5 from the left are lit up, water drained but no spinning, help!!

Try this: Turn power just to ON
Lift the lid an using both hands move the whole bowl clockwise at least on complete turn, then try it

Otherwise if lights 3,4,5 are on where 0=Light off and 1=Light on, the following data is copied from the repair manual.

(00111000) Phase 4 to 6 - Bowl Check No Valid Fault
While carrying out a bowl check, the machine has not been able to determine a valid bowl status and so the Display flags this fault.

Primary Source: Loading.
Action: Remove items until the remaining ones can move freely,
or rearrange the load so that the clothes are evenly
distributed around the bowl, or select a higher water level.
If the load was to one side of the bowl or too heavy it can
be possible for the agitator to bind in one direction when
trying to sense bowl float.

Secondary Source: Mechanical.
Action: 1. Check the machine is not syphoning.
2. Check that there are no clothes or other foreign objects
preventing the clutch from re-engaging, and that there
aren't any defects with the clutch mechanism.
3. Undo the display panel (2 screws the the back)
Next check that the clear pressure tube has not come off and
that it is not kinked.

Tertiary Source: Rotor Position Sensor.
Action: Replace the Rotor Position Sensor.

Quaternary Source: Motor Control Module.
Action: Replace the Motor Control Module.

Lid Locks- Fills for 2 seconds and stops

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer lid won't lock the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer door won't lock the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.
Main Control Board If the washer door won't unlock the problem might be the main control board. This is not common. Normally the problem is with the lock mechanism.

The locked light is on but I am able to open the lid. It will not start

Hello barbarafreel,

Your machine type is a FAV6800A correct? If so I would try to recycle 120VAC power to the machine. Pull the washer power cord for 30 seconds then repower backup. Do you still have the Lid Lock LED lit? If so further trouble shooting is required. I would next have you go into Service Mode. Once in Service Mode we need to go Board Output Test on page 16 of the Service Manual I will summarize below.

Here is the FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual for your machine. Follow all safety warnings when working on the machine.

Let’s see if you can get into Service Mode, from the Service Manual slightly modified;

Enter Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys simultaneously for three seconds or the display reads “00”

Now look at page 16 of the service manual let’s see if you can with the Board Output Test function unlock and lock the Left and Right Lid Locks.

Now press the Delicates key.

The LED display should show ot and the Quick Wash led will be lit.

The Left and Right Lid Locks will lock.

Now press the Extra Rinse key pad.

A few seconds should elapse and the Whites led will go lit for a short duration then off and in a few seconds the Lid Locks should unlock. Do the Lid Locks unlock?

Now press the Colors / Jeans key pad again.

Do the Lid Locks lock?

Let me know what action took place and we will go from there.

You can get out of Service Mode by pressing Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys simultaneously or press the Off key.

What I suspect is one of the lid lock is not releasing completely which moves a slide switch in the lid lock to signal the control board that the Lid is Unlocked and the Lid is Locked.

If you still have the issue I would release the washer top form the base and unplug the Right Lid Lock and see if that right lid lock is signaling incorrectly and possibly causing the issue. The Service Manual will show you how to release the washer top from the base. The left lid lock because of its dual signaling function “the Lid is Open/the Lid is Closed” and “the Lid is Locked/the Lid is Unlocked” can’t simply be unplugged. If you pull the Left Hand Lid Lock plug you will show a OP or OD error from the Control Board. If you are up for the troubleshooting I will help you proceed further.

Only the Left Lid Lock assembly needs to be plugged in for the washer to work as designed. I removed my Right Lid Lock a year ago and would never spend the money to replace it my choice.

Lock light wont turn off

Hello shon95m,
Glad to hear you did some troubleshooting on the first go around of your issue, we need to do some more. I haven’t experienced this issue but will troubleshoot with you if you can tolerate the down time. I will be doing this from the schematic of the machine. In this condition with the Locked LED lit are the Lid Locks actuated not releasing the lid to open? I know you know how to release the washer top from the washer base. Can you get into Service Mode in this failure condition?
First I would try the first two bullet points on page 13 of the SM for Will Not Unlock. I think you may have it, if not here are a couple of links to support troubleshooting efforts; Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
If that produces no results I would next pull the right lid lock off and leave it off it’s not necessary for normal washer operation and we need to reduce the failure points for fault isolation causing the lid lock circuit to remain lit.
Pull washer power plug first then pull the right lid lock off and leave it off. With the right lid lock plug pulled power up the machine does the Locked LED remain lit?
Repeat the step for the left lid lock after machine power up dose the Locked LED remain lit?
The “Lid Is Locked” inputs to the control board are in parallel from the left and right lid locks. From the schematic it looks like when the lid is locked +12VDC is connected thru the left and right lid locks to the input of the control board via Pin 8 of connector P3 marked on the schematic as “Lid Is Locked” input to the control board. From the schematic it looks to me that +12VDC signals the control board that the lid has successfully locked. So what is causing the Lock LED on the console? If it’s not caused by +12VDC switched to the input of the control board marked “Lid is Locked” from the left lid lock then I feel the control board has failed at component level causing this issue, but that is a WAG right now. The SM also speaks to a possible Motor Controller board as a possible fail point. If the Lock LED goes out when we pull the plug on the left lid lock then we need to open up that left lid lock and inspect for a possible corrosion paths at the plug or the left lid lock. See pic below of some nasty corrosion that can cause issues with the left lid lock assembly. Maybe we can get some other forum members to offer some additional support. I will continue to help until I hit a brick wall in troubleshooting or you need to move on. Rich
