Model jdc77. this thing drains batteries and i'd rather just run it from my computer when recording... but it's only receiving a video signal and no audio... is there a software update for this? The driver updated automatically to let video work, and that works fine, but the mic isn't working when plugged in (mic works fine when running on batteries, it's not a hardware issue)

The key to getting back to "It used to work fine;" is to make Windows "GO BACK IN TIME" to that moment when it last "It used to work fine;" occurred. How to do that. Try to pinpoint the exact date that it started acting badly. Now do this: START-ALL PROGRAMS-ACCESSORIES-SYSTEM TOOLS-SYSTEM RESTORE. I'm hoping you actually have RESTORE utility turned on...Now select the restore date BEFORE it quit working. DONE! Windows will run as it used to run when all worked well. I use RESTORE all the time and I have 100% success rate!

I use a memory card reader (about $15) to retrieve photos and toss the software that comes with the camera.
Another possible solution would be to go to panisonic.com and download the latest software.
Hope this helps and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
