How do i turn on my web cam on my hp elitebook 8470?

well that is not easy
stripping down the whole LCD panel is not for any NOOB?
why do that that at all.
just buy a web cam and plug it in USB.
end this.
I can do it but would never , actually after all the newer webcams
are vastly better, just like they are on cell phones.
evolution and costs less to get the better cam.

no OS told at all. came with XP or Vista sure. w7 is 2009(OCT)
the web cam to buy needs to support your unstated OS.
that means not XP, not VISTA relic cams ever.
answer #2 , HP does not sell those part then or now.
so all parts, bezel, CAM and cable needs to be found USED on Ebay.
the HP partsurfer shows all parts needed if you looked there.

HP does have full drivers up to W7-64bit on your support
page and if running that (are you) make sure the webcam supports w7, as most do not now or for sure not xp or vista

not telling your OS makes help SUPER HARD
as xp to w7 has no support now for say USB Devices (none or ending soon or NOW) RIP XP./vista/w7

You could just use search on your notebook. Type youcam, if its installed on your system it should come up.

If the WEBcam is built-in then -
You can download the WEBcam and device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windows drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

If your drivers were correctly installed, when you open up my computer you should see an icon for your camera

you then selected w7
the picked 32bit or 64bit , did you?
the you see camera drivers, and there may be
2 or more, web camera, sp12345.exe files
when you run one and it tells you wrong one, it is.

if you get the OS wrong, the camera wrong or the 32/64bit wrong
it will fail.
click control panel , then pick system
right on that page it says 32bit or 64bit.

i pick w7 and guess its 32bit.
then I see what.
i Click software multimedia
and run this.

shows as 32/64 bit both

the camera inside can be.
missing
wires fell off.

seen that many a time. from other service one,
they sold it with no cam and with cam.
some PC like this , the other owner puts in a new screen lacking a camera cuz its cheaper or only one he can find.

if you have a driver of your web cam .insert the CD and install driver .

Download and install Skype. Your web cam will be configured automatically. If your family has Skype you can carry on a video call without charge.
Each person needs to have Skype installed but, there is no charge for it.

did you try to use web cam with another software like msn and see if it is working or not , if yes try to make skype identify web cam again by going to tools menu then options then choose vedio settings it will identify your cam automatically
