My CD's will not play on my Denon 2910 anymore. The DVD's have no problem and play fine (sounds and picture). However, when I enter a CD, the display indicates " loading" and then jumps to 00H00M00S. To the left of the time indiactor the word "progressive" is lit up in red.
I have no idea what th eproblem could be. Can anyone help?
So, tiggers97, did it actually help/solve the problem? Where did you oil, and what kind of oil did you wind up using?
By this time I figure most peoples warranties are expired. So give this a try:
1 Open the case.
2 Turn the unit on and load a disk.
3 On top of the disk transport, you will see a black disk trying to spin as it reads the disk. You might notice that it is a bit quite as the display goes to 00H00M00S. It should be fast and a bit noisy.
4 Try loading a disk again, except this time, try to help that little black disk spin. It might take a couple of attempts, but I was able to get my 2910 working again.
The last year I've had to do this 2-3 times. But it works. From what little I have read, it may just be an issue with lubricating the right part with the right oil. I've narrowed my choices to PTFE 3n1 oil, Lithium oil, or silicone oil.
now I just need to find the right places to oil.
There should be quite a bit of noise and speed
Wow. A long time. Just to update, it ended up not being lubrication, but the laser head going bad. A fairly common problem with the Denons from this time period. A new replacement costs about $10 on ebay, and requires some de-soldering AFTER installing the laser head. (note: be careful when removing the two metal guide rails. There are some tiny springs behind them that can be easily lost if you are not expecting them. About the size of a click-pen spring, if you want to mcgyver a replacement)
HOP-1200W and HOP-1200S are two models of laser head that can be used to replace the old laser head. But a couple other possible replacements also exist.

Very funny, just googled around and read this. I have the same problem. SACD, DVD, DVD Audio no problems. Audio CDs - even a brand new one - don't read in 8 of 10 tries (different CDs, but always same CDs cause a problem / don't cause a problem).
To add current status:
Made Firmware Update (available on denon.de). Tried again today:
approx. 10 out of 40 CDs didn't work. Some even new / nearly unplayed ones. Some did work and then didn't or vice versa.
-> maybe Firmware Update did some good, maybe it's a coincidence.
I have a similar problem with my 2910, although it's SA cds and the occasional DVD it doesn't like. It simply refuses to read certain discs - I have even tried taking the disc back, swapping it for another copy of the same disc, and trying again - with no success. It seems to happen more frequently now than when the machine was new. It tries to read the disc a few times, then gives up, with the display stuck on 0h00m00s
I have the same intermittent loading problem with CDs. Once I get the CD to load it plays fine. I do not have this problem with any other type of disk (SACD, DVD, DVD-Audio). I do believe this problem occurs less with CDs that I burn myself or copy from store bought CDs. A service center I spoke to said it is probably a laser adjustment issue but it costs $110.00 just to check it and there is a two week wait. I decided to try and live with it for now. I did a firmware update once but can't seem to verify what the latest firmware should be from the Denon site as they do not appear to post any firmware downloads for the 2910 anymore.
Same as below - anyone having any luck with this?!?!
