These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. I called Sony repair and they said to bring my set in for evaluation. They think it is just the back light. Maybe $300 - $400 to fix. If it is the panel I will scream!

If you have the above model, then the four blinks indicate a backlight failure. The back light inverter board might be defective or the voltage from the power supply (+24v) is low or missing.

4 times blink error shows that any FAN is not running in TV as there are 4 fans in this TV.
Please check fan connectors and make sure all are plugged securely.

There is a real good chance that the lamp fan is not turning. If you look with a flashlight in the vent on the left side looking at the rear of the set and have someone turn on the unit, see if it spins. if it doesnt, the protect circuit in the tv will not let the set turn on. Replacing the fan will cure the proplem if it is not turning.
