SOURCE: My powermate portable generator runs but no AC

Hi. Lets cut to the chase here... Check for 5 - 7 DC volts on the brush block wires with the unit running. No voltage = bad VR Voltage = possible bad brush block or... that you may need to flash the generator field. I know you asked for a service manual but I am telling you these simple steps will save lots of time money and grief.

If you disconnect ONE wire off the brush block you should be able to read resistance of the armature. If you can not read that resistance then the brush block is probably not contacting the slip ring. If you do read resistance across the brush block with one wire disconnected then it is time to try a field flashing.

The manual calls for applying 6 VDC to the brush block wires engine running to flash the generator field . Over my many years of working on generators I have found that you can use an electric drill plugged into the the power outlet and the output power switch ON. You then turn the drill as fast as you can by hand...(YOU MUST PULL THE DRILL TRIGGER at the same time.) It is a little work to do this but it works well. You must be careful though because once the field does flash the drill is going to run... i.e don't grip the drill chuck to tight or at least LET GO of the TRIGGER when it takes off! What ever you do avoid using a rag on the drill chuck while turning it.

Give all of the above a try first and if we really have to, I will dig out the manual and copy and paste text only :( pictures I will have to send you links for.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Hi , I have a 2500 watts honda generator , it's starts & sounds alright but when you plug a power tool and once you press the trigger of tool it shuts off right away ... What could be the problem ?

Wow, you must have one mighty bit power tool there. The Honda genny should accept it easily. You don't mention the current draw of that power tool - it should be under approx. 2200W to allow for start-up load. The other possibility is an excessively long power cord or even a short-circuit in the tool ...... or a problem with the genny itself! Try plugging in your wife's hair dryer to check it. Failing that you should get an electrician to check it all out.
Good luck.

Can I change a 10hp generator motor with an automatic throttle to a manual throttle?

Yes, you will be able to control the throttle. Look for a lever that pulls on the governor spring. On some generators, the governor spring attaches to an arm with adjustment screw and locknut or metal tab that bends into position. All that you need do is to pull on the governor spring to increase rpm. The governor spring pulls on the governor arm that is attached to the fly weight governor inside the engine. The fly weight is turned by the cam gear in most cases and the force that it produces is constantly trying to close the throttle. The governor spring provides the counter force to open the throttle. Without the governor, the engine can over rev. Good luck with your project.

I have a Toro Self Propelled lawn mower. The pull cord broke when I tried starting it. As I went to fix the cord I noticed that the spring to pull the cord broke. Is there any way to fix the spring...

You need to obtain the model number off the engine and go to a website that has small engine parts, and likely schematics. Enter the model number and find your engine and when you get a list of illustrated parts drawing select the one for the starter or recoil strarter or some such listing. This will give you an exploded view illustrated parts drawing and you need to find the broken parts. Take the number that identifies it on the drawing and look to the associated table. This will give you a part number and allow you to order it.

I hope this helps.

Kipor 6700t - The battery keeps dying on my genny. I changed it today but now it turns over but doesnt kick in. Any ideas? Em

Ff you do not have a draw an the battery.
It is the battery.

Unless you cycle your generator every few weeks this small battery will drop below 12 volts and start destroying it self.

SOLUTION:
Our best fix was to add a 5 watt solar panel and now the battery stays above 12 volts and has extended its service life.

Hope this tip helps.

Valve spring broke

Not sure but I think someone told me it is a knock off of the Honda? If so maybe try comparing? Ck size, Spring tension & etc?
I know not much help but that's where I'd start. Been told by a local small eng shop there aren't internal parts available for the Sumec engines.
