Error Code: Check and rethread the upper thread

I keep getting an error code, "check and retread the upper thread" but the upper thread is threaded. The manual says to stop and rethread every time but I can't do that for every inch I stitch! Ever heard of this before?

Yes. It is a sensor on the take up spring. If you miss threading the take up spring you get this error. If take up spring is bent or broken you get this error or if sensor is damaged this error occurs.

fixed my machine!! turns out it was catching on the side of the frame, wore a small groove in it. put some clear finger nail polish on it to fill it in. I watch it now to make sure it goes to the spring. works wonderful now!

SOURCE: I keep getting "check and rethread the upper thread" error message

Hi....I also kept getting the check and rethread upper thread message, I\'d sew about 15 stitches and it\'d stop. Here\'s what I did. On the left of the machine, in the back there is a screw....loosen that screw, take cover off, then lift straigt up and out on the cover that has the 3 on it in your threading seqence. Next, I started inspecting and cleaning the thread route from top to bottom. Lo and behold....I get to the place where you come down the front of the machine and turn to go back up and I spot a little slit in the plastic piece so, when I was threading the machine I guess I was pulling it to far to the left causing it to wear a little slit in that piece....so, I finished cutting it off with a utility knife, used an emery board to smooth it down, put the covers back on and it works GREAT!!!! Who would\'ve ever that it\'d be so easy and save me a bunch of money!!! I sure hope this helps someone.

Embroidery machine thread getting stuck!

The error message "Check and rethread the upper thread" on your Brother PE550D embroidery machine can be caused by a few different things. Here are some things you can try to fix the problem:
  1. Make sure that the thread is loaded correctly and the thread guides are properly adjusted. Refer to the manual or the threading diagram on the machine for specific instructions.
  2. Check the tension of the upper thread. The tension should be adjusted according to the type and weight of the fabric being used.
  3. Check the bobbin case and make sure it is loaded correctly and the tension is adjusted properly.
  4. Clean the bobbin case and the race hook, and make sure there is no lint or debris that could be causing the thread to bunch up.
  5. Check the needle, make sure it is the correct size and type for the thread and fabric you're using, and that it is inserted correctly and tightened securely.
  6. Inspect the silver arm on the left and make sure it is not bent or damaged and that it moves freely.
  7. Make sure that the presser foot is in the correct position and that the presser foot lever is in the proper position.
  8. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it may be best to take the machine to a professional technician or contact the manufacturer for further assistance or service.
It is important to note that, the above steps are general troubleshooting steps, and the actual problem can be caused by different things, so it is best to consult a service manual for your specific Brother PE550D embroidery machine or contact the manufacturer for more detailed and accurate information.

Bernia 1630 - tension for thread is wrong. Loops form on the bottom. I can pull the bottom thread out. Have retreaded the machine several times and played with the upper tension. No luck. ????

Always thread with presser foot up. Make sure tension is set on the red line. Check inside of your upper tension disks - there could be thread in there. After rethreading pull thread through, then drop presser foot. Thread should be tight. If not you might need to have the machine serviced.

My brother 4500D keeps giving me an error message check and rethread upper thread and the thread is bunching underneath my embroidery

If the display reads "Check and rethread upper thread", follow the steps below to resolve the issue:
1. Upper thread may be broken.
2. Upper thread may be caught on the spool on top of the machine.
3. Upper thread spool may have run out of thread.
4. Replace the needle in the machine with a new needle. Your needle could be bent or burred causing the thread to break.
Turn your machine off and rethread the machine from the start.

I keep getting check and rethread the upper thread error message i have a embordery machine pe540D

Could be that the sensor is broken or damaged (possibly a check spring located near the take-up lever) or there is some thread or foreign material stuck somewhere.

Won't catch the bobbin thread everytime. skips. I have retreaded everything several times, reajusted tension, and even the presser foot tension.

Install a brand new needle.

Check the upper tension: Remove the thread. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. This ensures the thread is seated properly in the tension disk. Make sure the bobbin case is threaded properly.

If still missing the bobbin thread, it probably has a needle/hook timing issue.
