Sony kds-60a300 I have the exact same problem. TV turns off, red light flashes 9 times. How do I fix this?

  • cptkory Jun 24, 2009

    your advice to:
    "Nine blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G"
board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel
Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning
sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change
the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make
sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive) "

Sounds great. But I have absolutely no technical/electrical knowledge :(

Can i get a tech manual and do this alone or should I call a professional?

Here's the problem I have with the information you have been given....In the CRT projection sets the 9 blinks was a VERY common problem with the g board and the diodes that you have listed so every time a tech hears 9 blink they assume that the g board is bad without even looking at the model number, but had the tech that posted that information paid attention to the fact that you have a LCD projection set they might have though differently.
The 9 blink error code in your model denotes a fan error, the micro spitting that code out is not even looking at a 0 detect circuit like the crt sets that used to have the 9 blinks for a faulty 0 detect circuit which replacing those diodes normally fixes. Furthermore your model does not even have a D6116 so that pretty much throws that information down the drain.
Now as for your set with the 9 blinks, I have seen a couple of things cause this, first is any fan in the set and second is the optical block assembly.
Now the easiest way to test for this is to open the set up and see if all the fans are spinning, if one is not then we automatically know that is your problem and it needs to be replaced.
If you decide to have this repaired professionally, this repair normally runs $200-$350 if it is a fan and over $1000 if the optical engine is found to be the problem.
About the only thing I can suggest doing yourself is taking a look through the back of the unit and making sure all the fans are clean of dust/hair etc, and are spinning. This would cause the error as well.

Hi,

9 blink refers to :-

Nine blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive)

Hi,
3 times red standby light flashing indicates that lamp cover (first thing that you removed from tv to replace lamp) is not fixed properly on tv, make sure lamp cover is attached correctly with tv to solve this issue.
3 times blinking is not problem of fan or anything else, it is related to lamp cover that engages safety micro switch inside to turn On tv.
Thanks.

It sounds like the lamp has failed. It is advisable to use a genuine Sony lamp. The part number for is XL-5200. It will cost around 180.00. That should fix you problem. If you cannot find the lamp local to you can order it form Sony at.

TV will not turn on. Red light flashes 4 times

Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

I have no picture and light flashes 5 times

If you pull the right side out (as you look at the front), get you ear down to the fan exhaust area and turn the set on. If you do not hear the fan turn or feel air being blown out, then you have a defective fan. It is a common problem.
Hope this helps,

Sony Bravia KDS-60A3000 won't power up 9 flashing red power light

According to other posts I have read (I have same problem) there is no power getting to the fans. They recommend re-seating the fan harness again as it might have come loose or might have dust etc., in it.

I have no idea how to do this yet but that is what the trouble-shooting guide says.
