I am having the same problem that when my home theatre is connected up it works with sound and dvd but not the tv.

My problem is close to this, I do not get sound at ALL! I brought back the first unit, thinking it was the system (open box item). On the second one, I figured it was me.

I hooked the speakers up correctly (triple checked them, and had a BB rep confirm), then he suggested the fiber optic cable from the dvd and satellite box. Did that also.

Still NO SOUND! If I need to hook the digital coaxial cable with this set-up can someone let me know. Or if you know what is wrong, Please help.

    Thanks,

    Frustrated!

In order to run sound out of the reciever, you must wire your reciever via optical cable or RCAs to your Cable/SAT reciever. In other words, think of it this way.

For Video:
Samsung HTS ---> HDMI CABLE ---> HDTV HDMI #2
Cable/SAT Reciever --> HDMI Cable ---> HDTV HDMI #1

For Audio:
Samsung HTS ---> OPTICAL CABLE ---> Cable/SAT Reciever
*OR*
Samsung HTS ---> RCA (Two for Stereo) --> Cable/SAT Reciever

You want your HTS connected directly to your TV in order to prevent piracy software restrictions limiting or hassling your viewing of different media. Without connecting either RCAs or a TOSLINK (Optical Cable) to your Cable/SAT Reciever from your Samsung unit, you won't be able to hear it's audio output. HDMI Takes care of Audio/Video together, unfortunately the Samsung unit limits you to a single HDMI Output and no inputs for your other units to plug into.

With a TOSLINK, press the AUX button on your Samsung remote to Digital Input. When using RCA cables, set it to AUX 1 or AUX 2. You must lower your TV volume and use your Samsung remote to increase the volume of your Surround system.

Hope this helps!

Run a regular RCA type audio cable from your TV audio out to your Home Theatre audio in. That is what I have done recently with my Samsung LCD and Home Theater. You then have to put your Home Theater on Aux 1 or Aux 2 to get the sound from TV. Ensure your TV's volume is off.

Plasma is old technology and it is 16 years old and made in Mexico, the worst place for quality control. It is time for a new one, or at least an upgrade. Or you can get a board kit and take a chance on fixing it.

Dynex and Samsung

A common problem with these "all in one units"
When you have a DVD playing it is a digital signal direct to the processor.
When you have an external source ie: TV etc it may be a digital source, but you have to tell the Samsung unit this.
Make sure when it is on the TV setting (Aux) or whatever input you have chosen is in Dolby Digital or similar, Not stereo.
The unit should have a setting for this called sound program or sound setting.

Receiver & Speakers for Plasma TV

It really depends on how much you want to spend. A home theater set=up will probably be a bit hard to get without a DVD player. Let me know your budget, and I will see what i can come up with. Do you have to stick with Samsung by the way?
