Freezer works fine but the fridge will not cool.

  • icelander Feb 23, 2008

    Hi

We have a similar problem with our 4 year old FFA90P. Last week noticed that both freezer & fridge compartments were not working but fridge light does come on. Havent been able to get a repair guy out yet and wife is now adamant she wants a new one. Has been switched it off for a week now - so presumably any ice should have defrosted. Switched it on today and it seems to have a low humming noise - albeit no where near as loud as it was before. Fridge still not working but freezer is cold - not freezing but at about the temperature the fridge should be! Any clues before we buy a new fridgefreezer?

    Thanks, Dave

I have a fridgedaire fridge /freezer top freezer. The freezer is getting cold but the fan in the freezer does not come on when you turn the dial up.

The problem is there is a build up of ice insid of the freezer .
What you need to do is take out all your draws in the freezer and you will see a plastic backing held on with about 8 screws . undo all the screws and the back should come aay and you will see all the ice built up . just use a hair drier to melt the ice and that should cure your problem.

i would say this is not helpful ... maybe my case is different.. here it is... freezer is cold, frost on the evaporator, the passageways are clear of ice as we've cleaned and melted them out overnight. the fan has never worked since we noticed the fridge warming up... soo, the fan wont blow the cold air round upto the fridge... i just need to know really, is the fan at fault? or will it be something in the link telling the fan not to operate?

Danby fridge old model - freeze working but fridge section does not

Yes it has a fan you should here it and feel it. It sounds like your defrost coil may have gone out. Take the back pannel of the freezer off and see if it is clogged with frost.

Bosch kann58a50gb/o8 fridge not cooling freezer seems ok

See or hear if the fan inside is working. Im not conversant with your model. Some units have 2 fans , 1 in the freezer and 1 in the fridge. Some only have1 , which will be in the freezer only. If the fan fails, the fridge cannot blow cold air into the food compartment. Generally, when an evaporator fan fails, the fridge doesn't get cold and the freezer overfreezes causing an excess ice buildup in the freezer.

Hotpoint FFA90 fridge not cooling - freezer working perfectly....

Check to see if the fan is blocked or not functioning. The air is sent to the fridge from the freezer usually with a small fan and if the opening is blocked that will happen. The fan could also be bad or it is not getting any power.

Hotpoint FFA90 fridge freezer, fridge not cooling but freezer OK, was told vent proabaly blocked and to de-ice. Turned appliance off for two days, turned back on worked fine for 1 week but now fridge is...

i have the same problem. took apart the vent in the fridge at the top and thought maybe it needed replacing as that controls the amount of cold coming up from the freezer, but there doesn't seem to be any cold coming through. does anyone know if this is 'blown' through by a fan of some sort?

Creda R335NW Fridge/Freezer. The fridge section is not cooling down anymore, The freezer is working ok. Any ideas please?

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

Hotpoint Mistral Frost Free Fridge freezer - fridge not getting cold

We have just had to call out an engineer to get our 1 1/2 year old Hotpoint Graphite Frost Free Fridge Freezer repaired. The fridge had almost entitely stopped cooling even when on high. I was amazed at how easily the problem was sorted. The engineer removed all the basktes from the freezer to access the screws on the inside backpanel of the freezer. Once this panel was removed it was clear that the so called Frost Free doesn't really mean what it says. The ice need to be melted with a bit of simple care. It is obvious that with a bit of care it is easliy a diy job BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND READ THE NEXT PART BEFORE YOU BEGIN TO REMOVE THE ICE> The ice forms around variouys pipes etc and he usecd a screwdriver to help release the ice quicker than waiting for it to defrost and he also used a simple hairdryer to help speed up the process. He had a ntowel and a basin to take care of the water. Next time I would have no problem doing this myself but I would need to leave it a little while to defrost and NOT USE A SCREWDRIVER as I am sure somehow I would puncture a pipe or the wall of the freezer itself and I am quite used to doing the odd bit of DIY. On a difficulkty scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being difficult I would rate the job as about a 3. Hope this helps anyone who reads this about £70.

worthwhile checking closer. noisy fan can be due to fan blade hitting ice if there has been a build-up. otherwise needs replacing
