SOURCE: No volume control with 2 faders on Mackie CR1604 mixer

If all other functions work for those channels, the most likely problem is the fader itself. These can fail and operate more like switches rather than faders. Without witnessing the behavior, I can not state that for sure. While these mixers are not the hardest to work on, they are time consuming. The faders can be purchased from Mackie directly. If you need to have this repaired, any shop that repairs audio gear should be able to erpair this for you. Where are you located?

SOURCE: Mackie CR1604 has a consistent click at hi gain

Without hearing the noise or seeing it on a scope, I can't say for sure, but this type of noise can come from a number of sources. If there is a high signal level on one bus, you could be getting some cross-talk from that channel onto the channel with the higher gain setting. Try to track this down a bit by experimentation. For example, do you hear this with NO connections at all, but with the gain turned up on one channel?

Please try a few things to narrow this down a bit and I'll try to provide you with some options.

Thanks,
Dan

SOURCE: My old CR1604 mackie mixer

If the hum is observable in headphones, then it is likely a power supply problem, usually a dried out electrolytic filter capacitor.

My Mackie cfx12 will only work when the effects are on. What might be the problem?

Are you able to get a dry mix under these circumstances? If it is simply a dry version of the wet signal as you have turned the effects off yes it is possible a ribbon cable has come loose but it is more likely that an IC has died, this is not uncommon in these and they exhibit a range of symptoms including yours. If yea are happy to take apart and have a tame service centre this should save you quite a bit as the biggest cost is dismantling and rebuilding. As this is not unusual issue they should be able to fix quite easily

I have a Mackie CR1604 that hasn't been used for several years. When plugged in, a hum results on all channels, some channels louder than others. The hum gets louder as the sliders increase. Is it worth...

This should be a fairly reasonable repair. The main problem is finding the source of the hum. Since it is effected by the sliders, the source is in the mic pre-amp sections. Since all channels are effected, I would suspect a power supply problem rather than a problem with the electronics. Please send a note to Lauren@fixya.com asking her for contact information for me. I can help you out. These are decent mixers (I own a few) and should last for many years. Yours just needs a little TLC.

Odd channels go out 1,3,5.....

Unless you are in super humid environment, this is more likely a crack in the circuit board OR a bad connector on a ribbon cable. Also BROKEN or cold solder joint for a connector pin through the circuit board.

Good way to cause this with ribbon cables is to NOT distribute the load when pulling them off. Often the wires near the edge are stretched and make poor contact with the little forks that pierce the insulation.

CRC226 is a good product to use for contacts. Available at Home Depot in the electrical department. Blue spray can. Use sparingly.

Ch. 10 does not work - Mackie 1604-VLZ PRO

Yes, the ribbon cable is the 1st thing I would check. You can check the ribbon like this: Disconnect said cable from the channels. Connect cable connector from a known good channel to the problem channel. If channel sounds the same trace a signal through the channel op-amps.
