I just bought a Nikon FM10 because I like the old school type full manual cameras. I've loaded film into it the Nikon problem is the only way I can release the shutter is with a cable pressing the shutter release button itself doesn't do anything (it won't push down) as long as I have the cable attached I can advance and fire the shutter.. any ideas ..also I notice the light meter isn't working and I have double checked to make sure the batteries are in correctly. ... thanks

The film lever is also a switch. If you had advanced the film lever, **** it outward a little. You will feel the detent click somewhat when doing so. Leave the lever outward and see if the shutter will work. The detent is for appling an closed circuit for the light meter. When the lever is fully pushed back in it shuts the power to the meter on off to conserve battery power

Jim, it really sounds like one of threethings. Either will require a repair shop.
1. the film sensor is not recognizing film in the film chamber, or film across the back, therefore not telling the advance motor to advance film...
2. The film advance motor itself needs replaced.
3. The rear door latch switch needs replaced.
Since everything else seems to do OK, I doubt the main computer board is bad.
