Sony KP46WT510 picture goes back and fortto horizontal color bars

My five year old Sony projection TV suddenly started going between a good picture and color (R+G+B), thin, varying horizontal bars. Sound is fine. I disconnected the cable box, etc. so that CATV now goes directly to the TV, but no change. Prior to that test I tried a DVD and it worked fine, but the problem returns when back on CATV. Seems to be horrible when cold (~95% of the time), and less when warm (~25%, after 15 minutes or so). Thanks for your help!

The pictures show the result of a bad terminal input board. You can verify this by checking the inputs. Connect devices to the board and try different inputs. You will most likely find this problem on the tuner and component input were your DVI and composite video will be ok. If it is the same on all inputs replace the A board

You can get the SONY type 1 convergence repair kit which should fix that issue at the following link. The repair kit contains the components plus installation instructions on CD.

My five year old Toshiba 57H84 rear projection TV has a pink tinted screen when you first turn it on, then after it warms up, the colors are all fine but then the picture has evenly spaced blue tinted...

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board.This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors.When it starts to fail it will create black bars,pixelation,color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!

I have a sony 50 in rear projection. 9 years old

Sounds like the CRT tubes are going out which is fairly common on Sony. Inside the back of the TV there are 6 knobs - 2 for each color...one is for focus - dont touch - the other for brightness...turn down the brightness just a hair untill the lines go away.

Pink bar across top of tv screen

This could be from 2 things. 1 is the optical block is going bad or 2 you got a peice of dust blown in from the cooling fan and its blocking the color filter internally. If you are capable you can take the tv apart and blow compressed air into the color block and remove the dust. Hope this helps

you can fix it with the KP46WT510 convergence repair kit at the following link as your model uses the same kit as do most Sony models, The kit contains the ICs , PIco fuses and 4 of the resistors plus free instructions.

Picture warped and colors not lining up

Good Day petepath7;

With separation of colors it sounds like the convergence IC's have failed., but first try unplugging TV from a/c power for 4-5 minutes then plug back in, if no fix see previous.l

Yellow vertical bar on right edge of screen

Your set is starting to get a convergence problem and the only way to repair it is by changing the convergence IC's,(3)one for each color,the blue migh be showing more now but soon all 3 colors will be out of alignment and you will not be able to correct it with the custumer controls,is great that it has worked for so long without this problem,if you are familiar with tv service you have a place to check but if you are not too familiar be safe and call for help from a pro-servicer.Let Us know how it goes.

Picture problem

Have you taken another set an hooked up the cable or sat. to the other tv from this tv? Try that first thing. Next try the video input like with a dvd or vcr. No lines ?? Then sounds like the tuner could be going bad in this set. if you still have lines then its a problem in the video or horizontal section in the tv set. There are no user serviceable parts inside this set so its anot advised to gointo this set to try to fix it. You can get a serious shock or cause more problems with the set. I know you said it is about 5 or so years old. Its at the point of do you wanna invest in this set?? If you really like the way it works then a tuner shouldnt (if thats the problem) run more then 2 to 3 hundred bucks with the labor. Good Luck
