Yes i have a hp pavilion dv4z-1000 and when i turn on my laptop everything powers on except the screen it stays black.. i had plugged in the vga wire and it came on then after a while it went back off

If the Video Controller fails, the screen will stay black when the rest of the computer runs as it should. To test this, look to the side of the computer and locate the external Monitor attachment. It is a nine pin male outlet. Take a regular computer monitor and attach it to the connection and turn on the computer. If the Monitor acts like your normal LCD screen, then the main LCD screen is bad. If Neither the Monitor or LCD works, then the Video portion of the computer may be defective.

Could be power-supply or motherboard or video-adapter.
Take it to an authorized service-depot, for proper trouble-shooting.

Its probable that its the screen itself or the wiring to it. To isolate the problem, get a VGA cable and plug it to a stand alone monitor, it you see anything then its the screen.

This happens when a memory chip is faulty.

Once thing that does tend to fix this problem is disconnect the power cord, remove the battery, press and hold the power button for 10 full seconds. Than wait 10 seconds, put battery back in and plug in and turn it on.

if yes then press F8 before the Win screen comes...just after u press the power on button...
can u get the option to load in Safe mode...if yes chose Safe Mode
in Safe Mode if u get Desktop and can download from net

Shut down
remove all power source, power/battery etc
remove all power cables
keep pressing the power on button for some time say 2- 3 mins....do ON OFF for some time....
reconnect battery/cables power ON
c if it works now...let it boot in normal mode

It appears this is a lemon laptop as i have heard of dozens of people with the same exact symptoms "including my family" . I think every one should get hp to fix them or they should have to repay the consumer. sounds like defective engineering and class action suit. I own 4 Dell laptops and 1 Dell desktop and they all work but the hp laptop and the hp desktop we have both failed shortly after warrantee expired.
