Where is the vacum section located in the freezer

The drain line located in the back of the freezer section has clogged. Some drain lines are located on the outside of unit. If drain line is outside of unit, disconnect line, use a shop vac and place it over the connector and suck out debris. Then blow out the drain line, then connect drain line. If drain line is not visible on the outside of unit and there is no visible drain inside of freezer,, remover all food from freezer, remove the back wall in freezer section. You should see a drain in the middle, back of the freezer, Use sop vac and remove debris. If you don't have a shop vac, you can use a long straw, wrap tape around end to make a tight fit and blow out the debris.

You are locked into the defrost mode. This is where every 8-10 hours your unit will completely shut down except for the lights. At this time your defrost heater turns on for 20-30 minutes to defrost the evaporator (Cooling) coils in your freezer.


You can manually turn your unit back on, until you get a new defrost timer. If you have a up right freezer your defrost timer is in the lower back. It is mounted on a metal plate.

With a flat head screw driver turn the stem slowly one click at a time until your unit turns on. Once a day repeat this process to put your unit back into defrost until the timer is replaced.




If you have a top freezer the defrost timer is located on the top of the fresh food section on the left. Do the same thing. The cost of the timer is about $30.00.

Inside the freezer section is where the entrance is located. You don't see the drain because it is hidden most times behind the rear wall of the inside of your freezer. The exit of the defrost drain is below the refrigerator near the condenser fan and compressor. I will be here should you have questions, Sea Breeze

unplug the unit after 5 minutes plug and start then observe unit.

depending on the age it might be built into the board if it dont have a board the timer might be close to the compressor

sounds like you have a whirlpool/kitchenaid freezer top model. these very often get a clogged defrost drain, that clogs with ice, nothing more. the simple fix is to turn the unit off for 24 hours, open both doors, blow a fan at the freezer, to melt the ice in the defrost drain. The problem however, wont be fixed, the drain will eventually clog up with ice again, until you get a repair service to install a drain heater. But you will have dry lunches for a while, be it weeks, or months?

It sounds like the drain trough heater is not working. Not a fun repair job. You have to remove everything out of the freezer and take the top panel off the top of the freezer section. Locate the heater wire that goes into the drain trough and replace the heater wire.

If it's a side/side it's usually on the top behind the rear cover inside the freezer and you will have to remove at least part of the cover.

It is working to hard, look in the rear down low and check to see if you can vacum the fann and coil clean unplug it first. they tend to get real dirty real fast.

In your freezer section, there should be a "control" for the freezer temp. I say "control" because the knob is attached to a flap that only controls airflow the the lower section. If the knob is turned to coldest it will block almost all of the air from getting into your fresh food section.
