I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsung. Known to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio connections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Is a Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the locations of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check all Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. Look to see if the Caps are deformed and or split at the top. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. Part # http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=493-1754-ND. Total cost was $7 with S/H.
The power and inverter boards are combined in this model. If you inspect the three transformers that power the lamps you will most likely see that one or more is deformed (looks like it is slightly melted). You will also notice that the board under the transformer is discolored due to heat. This board is also known for bad solder connections. The actual repair would be to replace the transformer (T1, T2, or T3) but as of writing this I have not found that part available without having to buy the complete board.

If you are handy enough to take the back off the set, look at the caps (capacitors) on the main board, I had 4 popped on my samsung with a similar problem. $4 repair.
The tv that I have is an LG 42LB5600-UZ, but that wasn't one of the choices. The problem is that the television turns on... has a picture and sound, and then in about 30 seconds, the screen goes black but the sound continues. It is the same on every channel. It worked fine last night, but not today.
Hello. The screen goes black means that the backlights of your LCD is not working.Maybe the problem is the power supply or the driver board of the backlights. They shutdown because there have a shorted parts on the circuit or power supply.
Did you try to reset the power and turned on and get a picture or every time that you reset the power it will get a picture and the picture goes black?
I had the same problem. all the service reset would only make the display come on for a few second with no "k" on the screen - only the channel would show up. I purchased a complete set of board for the lcd on ebay, and started swapping them one by one. The inverter boards were the culpret. Tele working 100% since that board swap.
turn tv on picture comes up 2to3 seconds later tv blacks out then stand by red light flashes 4 times in a row repeatedly..can not turn on or off when stand by light starts flashing but before tv blacks out you can turn tv on and off repeatedly and picture and sound work. You have to unplug power cord for 30 seconds after stand by light comes on to get tv to turn on.
Your model has a maximum resolution of 720p. What you might want to do
is make sure that both your cable/sat box and game stations are
outputting at no more than 720 resolution. It's easy to assume that all
HDTVs may accept a higher signal, and while they might, some of the
scene changes or handshakes may make that operation cause the symptoms
you describe.
