WHY DOES MY ICE MAKER ONLY MAKES ICE SOMETIME

if unit runs properly with ice maker off, but trips GFCI when on I would replace ice maker of not have one.

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

1.) Press the test button while hold the bottom freeze light switch in. The light switch is in the front top part of the freezer. Observe what happens.

2.) Your ice maker will not work if unless you reach temperature. look in the back of your freezer wall. Is there frost or ice build up?

3.) Do you have ice on the bottom of your freezer section? Then you have a frozen drain, ice built up and can not reach desired temperature.

4.0 You have a non repairable ice maker. Sometime these flex types become jammed with a ice cube in the mold. Check this out.

5.) Your ice maker has a sensor. This may be bad, but I do not think this is the problem.

Get back to me on what you find from the above.

Ice maker is not going to harvest mode.

a) Either Ice maker is faulty. Change Ice maker.

b) Before that make sure that freezer compartment has reached minimum temparature for the ice maker to function properly. Normally it is - 11 c or lower. You have a freezer temperature like -18c and not harvesting then problem is on icemaker. Sometime you can pull the power out from ice maker unit and plug back after couple of minutes to reset the ice maker unit control board. It might work again.

what is your model number is then we can get started then

its the relay for the ice maker.. they are loud if the don't have water going threw them, you may want to shut off your ice maker. lift the arm to the up position. that turns off the ice maker.. if'n i was of hel vote YES .. jay the pool pump repair guy in longwood fl

Ok this sounds like your mainboard is about to go out, its causing intermittment cooling issues, board runs about $150-200.As long as you dont have any frost buidup in the back of the freezer, if not definitely the board. If you need any further assistance let me know.

The problem is one of two places,
the ice maker is the reason or the dual water control valve=> 4389177
Try pouring tap water inside the ice maker if cubes are not there. Let freeze
and if ice drops into the ice bucket then the water control valve on the side
that feeds ice maker is bad. GS5SVAXVA00 Parts
List Look up in the scrollbar and go to page 17 and you will see the water
control valve listed an item 5 and item 15 is the ice maker thermostat. That or
the ice maker module are most times at fault if the water control valve for ice
maker side had 120vac connected to it water would possibly flow. I have found
that sometime if the ice maker is bad just to replace would be the best route,
Tell me how the water test goes and if someone has a multi meter or ohm meter I

Ice Maker Assembly

Many ice makers have an adjustment screw behind the front cover that shows plus or minus. Try the minus turn of the screw that should shorten the amount of time the ice maker fills. If electronic please call the company you purchased it from and explain the problem. Sea Breeze

Our ice maker is not working..water is coming out just fine...the bar is down but not making [email protected]

Most ice makers have a wire bar that senses when the ice bucket is full. The bar lifts up when new ice is made. The ice maker determines if the ice bucket is full by lowering the bar back down after the ice drops into the bucket. If the bar hits the ice cubes in a full bucket, the ice maker shuts off. If the bar drops all the way and dosen't touch ice cube, the ice maker continues making ice until the bucket is full.

So you likely have one of the following problems:
1) The wire bar is missing or bent. Check to make sure that when the bar is pushed up, the ice maker stops making ice. Most bars will 'click' into the up position so you can shut the ice maker off. Push the bar up until it clicks into the up position and wait overnight to see if it makes more ice. If there is no wire bar over the ice bucket, that is your problem.

2) The switch the wire bar is connected to is malfunctioning. If you push the wire bar up and the ice maker continues to make ice, this is likely your problem. You will need a new ice maker unit. Try Appliance Parts Pros or EBay for a new unit.
