SOURCE: makita lithium ion 18 v battery wont charge

this normaly happens when the battery has been kept in cold conditions . keep your batteries indoors try sitting them on a radiator for a short period and they should take a charge . cold weather effects the cells in lithium ion batteries .

SOURCE: is it possible to replace the batteries in a 12v m...

Unfortunately there are no repairable parts in a battery. Once a battery is dead it's usually best to find a good recycling center for it, most The Home Depot's have one. Makita lists battery 1234 (Part #193157-5) for this tool but it's the old Ni-MH battery. I'd use battery 1222 (Part #192598-2), it's the better Ni-Cd battery.

SOURCE: I have a Makita 12v

Hi,
It sounds like the problem is the battery. It sounds like there are shorted cells in it so that it starts to draw too much current from the charger and the charger shuts down as a safety measure.
I hope this helps,
Happy New Year,
Mark

Rebuilding makita battery instructions

Rechargeable batteries are almost never worth rebuilding and never last very long when they are. In some cases, Makita being one, if the circuit board in the battery detects something wrong with the battery, it 'bricks' the battery. This is not resettable and the battery will not charge on a Makita charger. I'd be looking to get my money back from the repairman since his rebuild didn't take.

Switch and bateries

Makita makes two 12V Ni-Cad pod batteries: Battery 1222/2.0Ah (PN: 192598-2) and Battery 1220/1.3Ah (PN: 192681-5). Makita's universal charger (PN: DC1804) will charge any Ni-MH or Ni-Cad pod or stick battery from 7.2V to 18V.

Charger doesn't charge anymore

If you are comfortable with removing the upper half of the housing, unplug charger and remove the screws, take a look at the circiut board for a "cold" solder joint or broken component, usually the round ceramic looking piece with the copper wire around it. but look at the whole board.

I have a mikita 12 volt and when I charge it it wont hold charge.

do you have a volt meter toi check the charger voltage? if so then read the voltage out of the charger, it should be 1 or 2 volts higher than the listing 12v would be 13 or 14 volts. if it's working you probally do have a bad battery. if the charger is out then you have a bad charger.
