Check the following:
1. Use a wet lens cleaning disc as it may be dirty
2. Do you get a 5 digit code on display if so check manual for self diags details
3. Commercial DVD's - Is the region for the DVD disc the same as the player if not it will not work. Region code is printed on back of unit
4. If HDMI is connected via an AV receiver then protection stops some discs working - connect player directly to TV
5. Silly question but is disc being inserted the right way up?
6. There may be moisture inside player, remove the disc and leave player turned on for 1/2 hour, then retry
7. some videoCD's will not play on this unit
8. If using a burnt DVD the dye type may not work , it needs another brand.
9. Likewise this appears to be be an older unit intro in 2000 so it may not like -R, +R or RW discs.
10. You can only play NTSC discs. you cannot play PAL or SECAM discs
Good Luck

Sony tend to have a notorious disc lasers... couple of things you might want to try..

1. clean the lens using a standard Lens cleaning CD.
2. Try playing a CD (music) instead of DVD (if this works...it is likely that the lens is not reading DVD)

All of the sudden our Sony DVP-sr200p dvd player is not loading our dvd's, it is stating "cannot read disk". Any solutions?

use soft cloth to clean the disc.
Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback
Attempt to play another disc.
If another disc plays in the DVD player, then the previous disc is faulty.
If still the same. try to unplug for 3 hours. if the same. check sony.com/repair for service option
