SOURCE: I bought my canon digital

Your camera is an Ixus 860 IS which is also known as the SD870 IS in the USA. Here is a link to the PDF user manual on the Canon website:

Looking for a ac power cord for this camera

You only can safely use an original Canon power cord when you want to charge the batteries in the camera. That can be expensive. Why not buy an normal battery charger, to charge the two batteries outside the camera.
I know it looks convenient charging in the camera, but I charge all my batteries in external chargers. Is also much safer for the camera.

I bought my canon digital 1XUS 86015 in Hong Kong and didn't notice the manual was in Chinese. Is there a free English one available. I know nothing about my camera.

How many hours do I need to charge the battery of a new canon camera?

It depends on what camera battery, but usually about 2 - 3 hours. (The LC-E6 battery that comes with the 5D Mark II, charge time for a new battery is 2.5 hours). The canon charger should blink green while charging, then go to a solid green when the battery is charged.

Camera drains charged batteries

Most likely your batteries are just not holding a charge. However, before you spend good money on new batteries, try charging them on another charger (friend or sympathetic photo shop?). Could be the charger also. Usually it's the batteries, though.

Canon powershot g5 - battery charge

Take out the battery and put it back and than recharge again. Some times in case of G5 it happens that the camera battery is not properly charged and the indicator shows that its fully charged (i.e. Green light) In such cases battery need to be taken out and than put back again and recharged
