How to replace a broken screen on a dynex 42 plasma tv?

No--this is called a PDP or plasma display panel and no two (even same brand) can be interchanged.

The cost of a Panel exceeds the cost of a new set--broken screen=fatal issue.

Can't be repaired. You could replace it but unless you can find a second hand defective tv on the cheap and reuse its screen, with a new one it would cost you in the end more than for a new tv.

NO....You must pay attention to all numbers on the back of the TV. Verify these with your tech or contact your LG customer support for the correct board numbers. If the screen was broken I doubt if you can repair this for less than it cost to replace. The screen for this one runs at about $650.00. Good Luck and good advice!

If it was hit hard enough it damaged the display panel, therefore would not be feasible to replace. They cost as much as a new set.

Theoretically yes functionally no. Not unless the parts are the same, chack the model numbers of the plasma screens. If they match you can change them out, if not don't try it.
