Doors staying closed on refrigerator

Hi,
I just acquired an 11 yr old refrigerator whose doors won't stay closed. It appears that there rubber seals have a couple of rips in the bottom. Both doors have this problem, but I haven't found any rips in the freezer door. What could be the problem? and what would the solution be for this?

Thanks.

I cleaned the refrigerator very well and the doors still open. So I don't know if that is the actual problem. I will see what is what with your suggestion. As it is now, If I close the door, it may just open.

thanks for your time and thoughts.

It happens from not being cleaned and the gasket sticking when u open the doors

Depending on how bad the rips are... you will need to replace if too bad.. i have used silicone in a caulking tube .. to repair them.. use vasoline after to keep from sticking to the door on fram or door and on gasket

Refrigerator doors stays open

The rubber door gasket has a crack or hole in it. This gasket makes a tight vacuum seal to keep the doors closed.

My GE Monogram Frig door will not stay shut, it's lost its vacuum seal!

Check the fridge for out of level. Magnets on the weather-stripping hold the door closed. If there is something stuck on the seal, or too much weight in the door in an un-level fridge it will not make good contact. Try cleaning the rubber, and removing everything from the door after leveling. A good seal will stay closed even if the fridge is off.

Subzero regrigerator door not closing properly

Hi there,
Is it possible to elaborate a bit? Is it sticking? Jamming? Slamming? Not staying closed or sealed? Most of the time problems arise from damage to the white rubber seal (subzero's are specially fitted to ensure a stellar seal). Check along the entire rectangle surface for any cuts or problem areas.

Good luck!

Jenn-Air side by side refrigerator, Model JRSD2490. Not staying cold enough

Larger=colder. Make sure that 1) your magnetic strip around the fridge door is sealing well. Even a small leaking area could make it difficult to keep cold, especially in warmer areas. Also, make sure there is nothing obstructing the door from closing completely and sealing properly. I had this same issue where one of the door shelves was unlatched a little and the door would close but not seal. Beyond that could be motor or more likely compressor or coolant leak. Good luck.

I have a 3 yr old ge Profile side by side refridgerator model #psc23sgrdss with the following problem. on 3 occasions in the last 3 wks I've found the temp. in the refrig section very high ( 56 degrees and...

I had same issue this past week. Refrigerator up to 45 freezer up to 15. Ice would melt and then everything would get cold again. Ice formed on everything. Next thing you know it was warming up again. I knew the rubber seal on door flap that opens to let ice out warped during summer months because I keep it 78 in summer. Had that replaced today. Temperatures have gone back to normal and stayed ALL DAY (knock on wood). Check door flap seal sticking your hand up making sure you don't push in the water tab. You should be able to feel if it is warped/wavy like an old LP or not. Good Luck.
