My camera is refusing to show some of the photos I have taken, instead it says that it is an incompatible .jpeg. I took the photos with the cmaera! When I take out the card and open it on my laptop they all appear to be there & ok. Is there a way to fix this? I've tried changing the batteries already (as if it would help), but I'm at a loss now.

It may have one or more bad files that the camera doesn't recognize... if you can load it into a card reader, you can look for a dissimilar file name from all the others.... or simply reformat the entire card via the camera menu.

Are these jpeg's from a different camera or a computer?

If you tried to remove the card while it is reading or writing by mistake, it is normal that your card is damaged. First format the card and try to use it again. If the problem persist then change your card with new one.

Did you forget to use the "safely remove hardware" function when you removed the card from the computer?

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.
