I don't understand what you mean by 'reinitiate'. Please tell us what it does physically and what messages appear on the screen.

Not a good situation, since this usually means the scanner assembly is having issues and doesn't park itself properly, causing the initialization problems. This happened to the one I had and was going to cost too much for parts to fix, so I now have a new all-in-one. I usually can fix these little issues, but this one left me scratching my head. Sorry that this is not actually a solution, but bad news ;(
