Settiing up hotmail on KC910

you will need to know type of server , incoming server name, outgoing server name and user account details. call ISP and ask for help in setting up email program settings.

Are you using Outlook Express or another email program (like Microsoft's Live Mail)? What ISP are you connecting to (Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail), gmail.com)?

This is a symptom of a security mismatch. The exact solution will depend on the answers to the questions above. Most likely, you either need to change the port from the default one. You also may need to change the encryption/authentication protocol. These settings may be under different sections of the email program setup menus. (They will be in the Advanced settings of the Server Settings/SMTP settings section of the program. Check under Tools)

For example, Live.com uses port 995, instead of 110 for the pop3 server. The outgoing SMTP server needs to be accessed at port 587, instead of 25. You need to include your full email address in your user settings for both the incoming and outgoing mail. This generally suggests that whichever mail account is not sending does not have the correct server details set in the Mail Application's configuration. Check the server details from your provider and the details on the Tab to ensure they are the same. If it still doesn't work, your server might not support external SMTP servers or something similar in which case you need to contact their support services

I'm not sure if this is of any help
to anyone but these are the steps
I used to set up email on my
Monte. I'm using an old hotmail
account that didn't support IMAP
or SMTP properly.
1.Set Up a GMail account eg.
[email protected]
2.Set GMail to allow IMAP via the
settings link the the top right
hand corner. (under Forwarding
and POP/IMAP)
3.Under accounts and import set
up the send mail as to send mail as
[email protected]. Set this
to default send adress
4.In the same tab under check
mail using pop3 set up the pop3 to
recieve from someone@
hotmail.co.uk
5.Under Email Accounts on the
Monte set up email with the
following charecteristics:
Account Name: Hotmail
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Port: 465
Secure Connection: SSL
Incoming Server Type: IMAP4
IMAP4 Server: imap.gmail.com
IMAP Port: 993
APOP login: greyed out
Secure Connection: SSL
Download Limit: 500
IMAP4 incoming email: New
Retrieving option: Whole Message
Keep on server: checked
My email adress: someone@
hotmail.co.uk (This is the adress
the phone puts in the from line of
an email)
Username: [email protected]
Password: gmail password
Pop before smtp: greyed out
SMTP auth: checked
Same as POP3/IMAP4: checked
Username: greyed out
Passowrd: greyed out
This should allow you to recieve
new messages from the time you
set up the gmail account on your
phone and to send emails with all
the appearences of coming from
your hotmail account while
actually coming from google's
smtp server. Really do check that
the GMail is set up properly, make
sure it recieves emails adressed
to your hotmail and that it sends
in your hotmail account's name.

I have the following (and complete) list of settings on my Jet for my hotmail account and it is receiving and sending emails correctly. (After seeing 6 posts and none with a full solution, something needs to be done .. RAGE!!)

Some tech info to help problem solve. POP3 is the technology involved with receiving email, SMTP is involved with sending. (Lots of people saying they could receive but not send, but their SMTP settings weren't correct)

Call you mobile provider and have them assist you further

Your mail server is provided for you by your internet service provider (ISP).
Your ISP's help pages, initial setup pages will detail all the settings for your mail servers. Likewise gmail yahoomail hotmail setup pages detail their server settings.
