It sounds like you have the auto power down/auto power off turned on which is diffrent from the sleep time which can only be set for two hours and the auto power down/off feature can be set for many hours and is always on unlike the sleep timer which must be set each time, you will be able to find it in the on screen menus and turn it off since it is on the moment you turn your unit on and your owners manual will explain exactly how to do it and if you dont have the manual just goto www.yamaha.com and you can download the manual for free. please let me know if that was the problem

When power button turned on, receiver powers up

I have had the same problem with my new Onkyo HT-S 5305B (A/V Receiver + 5.1 speakers). To solve this, try to follow "Troubleshooting" guide that came with your system. I followed it 2-3 times. In my final attempt, when system was not shutting down but stayed-n with no sound, I played with the setup and tried changing audio adjustment, input, dimension etc. and slowly I was able to get speakers up one after the other. It's working fine now.
However, I am little concerned that why such a high-class Onkyo system failed in less than two days, forcing me to troubleshoot. - Apurva

Protection circuit activating. Possibly a shorted amplifier channel or power supply fault. Take it to a Denon repairer

Pioneer VSX-9700S Audio/Video Receiver powers on then shuts off

The Pioneer 9700s is a very good sounding unit, if you are talking in home threater space, but your problem sound like the power amplifer section is giving out too HIGH DC voltage therefore ripping the protection circuit. In these newer home threater ammplifers, there are not dc offset voltage adjustment on the circuit brd. All is done by negative feed back. Sorry you ar eout of luck I don,t hinkit is worth fixing. They are not as well make as the older Sa7500, and Sa9800 amplifers of old. There is a good chance that aftera few month something else will go on them. That is why they are so cheap on Ebay, these thraeter receivers.

Projection TV keeps shutting down

Good Day;

Sounds like you have a bad green picture tube that has failed. To check this out; remove front speaker grill, remove small panel, you will see three CRT's (pictue tubes) sticking down, remove the little board on the middle tube then restore power. If TV stays on more then likely the CRT is bad but not always the driver on board could also be bad, check voltages.

Good Luck, big IRISH.
