Videos say you can on some models, but doesn't include yours
After putting a known good tape in the deck, push play, if the tape doesn't move, try rewind and FF. If nothing happens, the deck has a problem. I assume this is a cassette deck. If so, I always try the thrift stores for a new(used) one. There are good bargains there.
Hi, the way you properly reset that deck is this. Get the removal tools, slide them in to release the deck. Once its out look in the back corner of the deck for a fuse. R -R the fuse you should hear it cycle, thats it.
Did you recently update your iPhone 3GS firmware to iOS 4.x ? There is a signficant number of people with this problem after the firmware update. Here are two possible solutions that have worked for some people.

Does the player has the 12v needed on the rem side to light the player? If so then there maybe a short in the lamp area, if you tapp on player do light come in and goes out?
