My brother loaned my kids his pc. He had his sleep options set too high at 10 mins for screen, 25 mins for hard disks and 45 mins for system standby. I decided to change them. I checked on the internet and followed the directions. I went into power options and changed the screen to 20 mins I think, and 3 hours for the other two. I may have also enabled hibernate. Now his pc has shut off and won't come back on. The monitor read... 1. digital annalog..sleep mode...hit any key or move mouse.... This however, didn't do anything. The screen's power button is orange. I unplugged it for 10 mins and it started to reboot afterwards. I got a message about ...power loss...scroll down to choose which program to use...and I didn't know which to choose so I didn't choose any. Then it went back to sleep. I unplugged it again, but all it does now is beep. Six beeps I think and the numbers 3 and 4 are lit up on the front. Please help me fix this!
Sleep mode on a Windows 7 PC saves power without you having to turn your computer off and without losing any work.
This option cuts the power to your monitor, powers down the hard drive and pauses all functions until you awaken the computer from hibernation.
Whether you have a laptop, desktop or workstation, putting your computer into sleep mode will lower your electric bill and save money!
Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop. In the lower right corner of the Start menu, next to the "Shut Down" button, is a button labeled with a small, right-pointing arrow. Mouse over the arrow.
The Shut Down menu appears.
Point at "Sleep" and click on this option.
Your Windows 7 computer goes into sleep mode.
Wake your computer from sleep mode by jiggling the mouse.
There may be a delay of a few seconds before your hardware powers on.
All of your open programs are still open and your work is intact, just as you left it before the computer entered sleep mode.
Configure your Windows 7 PC to go into sleep mode automatically when it is not used for a certain amount of time.
Click "Start" and select "Control Panel." Click "System and Security."
Click "Power Options."
A menu opens.
Click on "Choose when the computer sleeps" and select the number of minutes of inactivity. You can also set a separate time interval to put your monitor into sleep mode.
If you set both to 10 minutes, then your PC and monitor will automatically go into sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or
a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from
it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white
letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the
percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to
completion. Then reboot machine.
If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.
Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents,
music, pictures, videos or programs.
In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when
the options appear.
In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery
console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.
