Yes, when a battery is being used for a long time, you need to let it cool down and take it to charged. Although there is many fast charger now, but in order to protect the battery, I recommend you to buy a second battery for replace.

you need to get all the hair out firstly but DO NOT touch the exposed switch as it is a static switch and can fail by the tatic in you!
the problem may be that the brushes were damaged try replacing them see how that goes.

if your batts are ok and the batt connection terminals look ok you may have either faulty switch burnt off wire at brushholder or reqire new brushes
