You need to turn volume down and adjust HI/LO controls. You're distorting the sound or over driving speaker(s) Do you have a mixer inline? IE: Mic -> Mixer -> Speaker Of you don't have a mixer inline you're playing with fire and can destroy that speaker. Trust me, I do this for a living on a lot bigger scale.

Mackie 450 , crackling even when the volume is turned off , gets louder then gose away for a short time then comes back very noticable when music off

I think the fault is in the power amp section, since it's not affected by the volume control. If this is a stereo amp and it's accross both channels then it must be a part that is connected to both. Such as a Power Amp IC. However if mono probably a transistor on the heat sink.

Repair a Mackie SRM 450 Speaker The Speaker is making a crackling sound while playing. The sound keeps cracking up.

You probably need to replace the diaphragm. The diaphragm is located behind the back cap. Simply remove the back cap, remove the diaphragm, clean the voice coil gap with a piece of masking tape, install a new replacement diaphragm, reinstall the back cap. That it!
You can see videos on how to replace diaphragm at this link.

There is crackling coming from the horn as soon as the power is turned on, the level of the crackle does not alter with the volume control, the cabinet performs fine otherwise ?????

The horn speaker is wearing out. Inside speakers, there is a magnet, the speaker part is attached to a cone that slides over the magnet, They tend to make crackling noises. Try very gently to apply pressure to the horn and then release. If you hear a scratching sound, the horn will need to be replaced

Humming problem

This could be a grounding problem, it might change if you plug it in elsewhere or it might be where you live.
