SOURCE: typewriter won't type letters

HI.. the hammer solenoid may be faulty..it should make a typing sound when you hit a key.( the printhammer moved and strikes the printwheel) or when you changed ribbons you might have unlatched the printwheel..there is a lever you press to relatch it until it "clicks"
If not that then make sure the ribbon is seated correctly, that it is between the printwheel and the black roller. Also visually inspect the ribbon so it is not caught in the printwheel.

SOURCE: Margin Release problem

Unlike the manual states, you have to release the Alt + MREL before you backspace past the margin. Then it works.

Make sure ribbon you have if for the typewriter you have. take ribbon off machine and type characters, you should see the small ribbon (black) part that turns the ribbon move. If not you have a problem in the printer carrier itself...

SOURCE: My typewriter doesn't type..won't display letters, but keys work.

alot of the brother t/w's have 2 cam assemblies under ribbon holder. 1 operates the print hammer and 1 operates the correction ribbon lift. sometimes these will hang or lockup. sometimes turning on and off a few times will take care of it, but sometimes it needs to be worked on by a t/w tech. if you look when you type a character, most likely the print hammer is not firing or it is striking the correction ribbon instead of the black ribbon.

Quiet deluxe typewriter

This is called motion adjustment
I assume the "segment" or the type faces go up and down when you shift? otherwise the "platen" where paper goes goes up and down either way there are a bump stop that is adjustable. usually with a flat blade screwdriver and a 5/16" wrench. there will be a bump stop on each side that must be adjusted equally however only one may be loose causing the problem. but first you should check the linkage for bends or binds shift lock should hold it to the maximum against the stops. How do i get my Brother A X 250 Eletric Type writer to type the correct letters ?

"If your unit is not printing properly:
1.Ensure the ribbon cartridge has not run out of ribbon. If your ribbon appears silver or gray, install a new cartridge.
2.Ensure the black lever in the center of the carriage is pressed to therear towards the paper. If not, press it to the rear to lock the Daisy Wheel into place.
3.Reset the unit by holding down the [CODE] Key and pressing the [SHIFT]Key and the [WORD OUT] Key.
4.Release all three keys.
5.Try typing.
If the problem continues, your unit will need servicing. You can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center in your area:

With power off, remove the ribbon and look down inside the carriage assembly on the right hand side. Look close and you will see a white gear, you rotate that gear, either way about 1/2 a revolution. Power on and try typing, if it works you can put in the ribbon and go, if not, rotate the gear somr more.

First see if the ribbon is spacing a full space for each letter pressed if not you may be in the over strike ribbon mode, to get out of the mode press code and comma, period or slash i'm not sure which one So try them all.
If that dosen't help check to be sure the correction tape is not getting in the way, remove the corr. tape and try it.
Next remove the ribbon and release the hammer as if you were changing the P/W and see if the plunger in the solenoid is free, if not try a drop or two of WD40 on it.
