I assume you mean the Nook keyboard doesn't allow switching between numbers and letters. The built in Nook keyboard isn't the smartest or only keyboard app out there. Now that it's totally free strongly recommend you go into the Google Play Store and install SwiftKey. One hour using it and you'll wonder why you ever put up with Barnes and Nobles chunky idea of a keyboard. Even Google itself has their own keyboard app. You can have multiple keyboard apps installed at the same time. Just use the Switch Keyboard option to toggle between then.
As far as SwiftKey is concerned one of the main features that first sold me on it is it can be resized. I always hated the Nook keyboard just took up so much of your available screen space leaving so little for the input area. Did you know SwiftKey can be setup to show a numbers row at the top just like a regular PC keyboard? Also it can learn your typing patterns over time and predict the most likely word you will use next. Just click the word in the predictions bar.

Have you tried to hard reset the device? To do this just press and hold the power and home button and the same time until you see the screen go black and the apple logo appear , now let go of both buttons, allow the tablet to start up. Try the facebook app again, does the problem persist? If the problem still persists, check to see how much space you have on the tablet, sometimes the limited amount of space on the device can prevent an app from functioning correctly. If you find there is not very much space remove several items, to create more storage space, then attempt to use the Facebook app again, does the problem still persist? If so, check the App Store to see if there is an update for the facebook app, if you find one under updates, install it, try to run the App again. On your facebook page, type your friends name in the space where it says search for people,places and things box. If they are on facebook, their profile will show up.

You can connect a bluetooth keyboard if the on-screen keyboard does not satisfy your needs. As for storage space, look around for a "wireless hard drive" with iOS support.

This is a known issue with Touch Cover, go with Type Cover. It costs ten bucks more but is well worth it.

The ipad is different that it has no space bar for typing email adresses in safari but will show space bar for search box.

Space bar will only show when in search on Safari,no spacebar when typing addresses.

What app are you in? The iPad's software keyboard is not always the same - it changes depending on what context you're in. For example, it will remove the space bar and display web symbols when typing a URL (web address).

Replace the keyboard easily available for cheap. Get full manual at Acer website but replacement is easy, be careful of the clips holding the connection to the motherboard, don't remove just slide upward to release..
