I've already taken out the retainer clip but the cartridge won't budge when pulled out.

Once the clip is removed it should pull out but they can be stubborn sometimes. You might want to clamp the stem with a Visegrips and yank away.

MOEN cartridges can be EXTREMELY difficult to remove sometimes. Be sure the horse shoe clip is out. Then you can use a crescent wrench and carefully turn the cartridge, once you get the cartridge to turn a little you can try to pull it again. They actualy make a tool to pull these. They run around $10 at your local home improvement store. The tool takes the place of the crescent and puting the handle back on to pull it. Hope this helps.
