I've had a same problem with a similar TV. The odds are the power supply board for the screen has failed. Most manufactures call it a Backlight Inverter board. If you have some electronic experience, you can some times find a Service Manual for your TV on the internet for less than $20. It will have all the research material for repairing the damaged circuit board.

my 42" ilo plasma started going black on the outside to middle, now its totally black and no sound the power indicated lites for a min then the tv shuts off

I have an ILO 42" Plasma, model PDP4210EA1. TV was playing and made a sound like a "bug zapper", screen went black, but sound never went off.

The noise was an internal component frying. It will probably be cheaper to get another TV.

The resolution of that plasma is extremely low, you will gonna have problems viewing even the simplest site an most programs wiil display badly - they need at least 800x600.
But for movies it will work just fine. Use an S-video cable from the video card to the tv and it should be automatically recognized. Configure it like any other tv, just make sure you select its native resolution - 852x480 - for best quality image.

If the fuse burned out the the tv would not turn on at all. When the tv is on is the back light still on? If its not its probably the back light that needs changing. If its on then its one of the circuit boards.
