This condition use to happen when almost done cutting, but now half way thru it happens. but can shut the PTO off and run. Could the oil be broken down and overheating or plugs. but she does not cut out when running till 30 min in and have to shut PTO off before she dies. She then catches up and will idle, but same thing next time I want to mow. took carb off and clean as a whistle. I am at a friends mowing and when this happens can start back up and take back to house a block away and runs fine, but can not turn PTO back on or will bog down and kill motor.
When it starts cutting out and you turn off the PTO, how long do you have to wait until it can be turned on again? It sounds as if your PTO is overheating and loading down the engine. Run the mower for about 10 minutes, shut it off, and carefully feel the PTO housing. Resume cutting and repeat after it starts cutting out.
Replacing it is not as simple as changing the spark plug, but does not require an advanced degree.

I hope this will help you...under the side panels on each side of the mower, there are "reverse lockout safety switches", they are supposed to stop the blades when both handles are pulled back. If one or both of the switches are out, the deck will not engage. Also, under the right side panel (when sitting on seat) there should be 3 relay switches, the one closest to the motor controls the PTO., if this is out, the PTO will not engage.

Sounds like either a wire is detached from something or simply the switch is bad. Also depending on the model there is some times a fuse for the electronic clutch.
If you are still having a problem, it may be the switch. With the mower key on, and the engine not started, (DO NOT START ENGINE, ONLY HAVE KEY POWERED ON!) have some one engage the PTO switch while you listen for a click from the deck belt drive pulley. If you do not hear a click form the pulley, which has the clutch attached too, then it is not engaging. This is possibly the switch.
Remove the switch. there will be 2 wires on it. Doing the same as before listen to the deck belt drive pulley(WITH THE ENGINE NOT RUNNING, BUT KEY ON.) whiles some one touches the 2 connectors on the wires from the switch together. You should hear a click. If you do then you have a bad switch. Easy fix. You can even Start the tractor, with every one clear of the mower, and then touch the 2 wires together and the blade should come on.
If you still do not get the blades to engage then most likely the clutch for the blade engage is shot. this is a more expensive replacement. There could also be a loose or broken wire some where you haven't found. If every thing is intact, then I would look into a new clutch for the PTO.
