I bought a brand new sdhc card and when i inserted the sd card it wouldnt format. also when i tried formatting it on the computer first then instering in the camera it didnt work.

Your camera is not SDHC compatible. It will only support standard SD cards. Sorry.

Older C310s won't take that large a card. Try to exchange it for a 1 GB or smaller. I had the same problem - a PNY 1 GB works fine

Check to make sure the cards write protect is
off, take the card out of the camera, face the card towards you, look
for a small white tab on
the left hand side of the card, to unlock it push the tab down, it will
be at the side of the card like this 
. Put it back in the camera and use the menu to format the card.
If the format fails then its a possibility that you will need a new card.
