Maybe for extended use, maybe a weak point of the flash, but my built-in diffuser plate was broken off from the flash. It's only one side of the little hinge that's broken off. Does anybody know where I can find a spare part to replace it, or how else I can repair it? Thanks.
I recently purchased one second hand that is missing the build in diffuser (from the Nikon SB-800).
How bad is this for photographing, what are my options.I recently purchased one second hand that is missing the build in diffuser (from the Nikon SB-800).

Take the Diffuser off and run it if the impeller turns then might be tightening the Diffuser too much, it just needs to not move, doesnt really need a super waterproof seal or anything like that. If it still doesnt turn with the Diffuser off it might have locked up when replacing the Impeller, you can try to turn the impeller manually or remove the cover plate on the back of the moter and turn the shaft manually back there. OOoorr you broke it
Wanting to lessen the power of your flash with under exposing your picture/subject? Want to add natural light bounce to your subject and lessen shadows? Wanting to have a pop-up flash diffuser without spending a dime? How about removing shadow cast when doing some macro shots? If your answer to these questions are YES, then time to read this DIY guide. This should be easy to follow and the material(s) needed should be available in your home. First, let's briefly discuss what a diffuser is. Adiffuser lessens the strong/ harsh light coming from your camera's built-in pop-upflash, creating a softer and distributes the light evenly on your picture. There are lots of pop up diffusers out there and are relatively cheap. However here's one that I've tried and tested and worked fine for me. Take the cap of your empty roll-on(deo) place it with your hand, right at the front of the pop-up flash(in it's popped out position). Then take a picture using flash. Try it with and w/o the cap to see the difference. Not impressed? Try it first and explore new ways of getting better pictures.
I think what you mean to say is flashing ember this is an indication of descaling but please before you do descaling first remove the diffuser plate which is based on the top of the drawer just in case the plate is blocked. to remove the plate simply
When faced with the total unavailability of replacement parts, its time to get creative, and make your own diffuser cover. Flat ones can be easily made - find anything plastic that's semi-translucent (like a plastic milk bottle), and cut it with a utility knife. I have also used a utility knife to cut a polystyrene diffuser cover originally intended for a 2-ft x 4-ft suspended ceiling fluorescent light fixture. In case the diffuser cover you make wants to burn when placed close to a light bulb, replace the bulb with a CFL (compact fluorescent) bulb, which run MUCH cooler than incandescent light bulbs. Old lampshades can be cut and used, but may need to be ironed flat. The major advantage of lampshade material is that it can be folded over at the edge once or twice, which will fill space - and possibly hold the cover where a plastic sheet might be too loose. You'll know that your efforts have met with success when you can easily remove your ne diffuser cover to replace the light bulb.
assuming that you have not defrosted the unit completely,do so (ice is 0c..and you want freezer to be -18c)then let unit settle for 24hours,then check temp...
this is caused sometimes from the igniters not giving enough spark ie. worn out or the gas orfice to the burner has trash in it and needs to be clean out
Make sure the built-in diffuser is pushed in all the way... that diffuser is only designed to work when in "14-mm" mode so whenever that diffuser is down, even just a little bit, the entire display will flash and 14 mm will be shown as the focal length of the flash.
make sure the diffusion dome and the built in wide angle adaptor are off. If the diffusion dome is on, it will only work as 14mm and 17mm without the diffuser but with the wide angle panel.
