SOURCE: ice maker stopped working. In door water

Hi TBurl,
Yeah... classic sign of a failed water valve. You need a new one. The part number is D7742204 (<---plug that into a search engine or call a local appliance parts outfit to get one).

Easy to replace... Just pull the fridge out, UNPLUG IT FROM THE WALL, turn the water valve off at the wall, remove the water line from the fridge valve, then remove the 2 screws mounting the valve bracket to the base of the fridge. All you have to do now is remove the electrical connectors and the tubing from the old valve and place them on the new one (making sure to get the wires right, OK?). Now just mount the new valve, reconnect the water, turn the water on and plug it in!

EASY! All in all about a 20 min. job. There ya go! Your fixed. Don't forget to rate this solution, OK? My self-esteem is depending on you. :P

The freezer isn't making alot of ice. Can the hose behind the ice maker freeze?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

When a refrigerator slows down ice production it is usually the result of poor air-flow through the evaporator coils. The poor air-flow is due to ice build up on the evaporator coils. The ice build up happens because the unit is not defrosting properly or the evaporator fan is not running at full speed.

To answer your question "Can an Ice-maker tube freeze?" Yes, they can and do freeze but when they do freeze that is caused by a defective inlet water valve that is leaking water by when it is supposed to be shut off. It can freeze if some one set the temp control to MAX cold. Additionally when they do freeze and the Ice-maker cycles the plastic hose on the back of the unit pops out of the ice maker tube and each cycle starts porting ice maker fill water on the floor.

This may sound odd.. but. Perform a manual defrost by removing the freezer contents and directing a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. (Makes a water mess so do not leave it unattended) The return the unit to normal service and after 8 hours start watching the amount of ice produced. (Should be normal for 2 days!) If after 2 days the ice production slows again you have an automatic defrosting problem that is causing the ice build up on the evaporator coils.

If you need any more assistance please include your complete model number in any future responses.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Cleaning of whirlpool gnf 220x model

If your ice maker was leaking before and after the valve replacement, it is likely the ice maker that is at fault. The ice maker energizes the water solenoid, its not a pump, which then opens to allow the pressurized water flow up to the ice maker. If the valve solenoid has been replaced, the culprit is likely the ice maker itself. The valve should only be open for about 7-9 seconds, but if the ice maker motor is slow, or if there is some other malfunction with the ice maker, it will energize the valve for too long, causing it to then overflow. It could also be a hairline crack in the ice maker mold that is causing it to leak.

Water leaks when the ice maker turns on. When the water starts to run to make new ice cubes it leaks out the bottom of the refrigerator.

You most likely have a slow leak in the water control valve side for the ice maker. What is most likely happening is as the slow leaking water reaches the end of its fill tube there is a slug of ice and instead of flowing and filling the ice maker it goes everywhere but there. I have photos of this happening but will need to search for it to show you. Please send your model number and I will point out the replacement for you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

GE Artica PSS29NGNA no ice is being / no water flow on ice side

It is possible the water control valve on the back of the refrigerator is defective. When the thermostat in the ice maker tells the water control valve to ope after dumping the ice. Try filling the ice maker with tap water and let it freeze and cycle one time. It is also possible that the fill tube for the ice maker has frozen shut because of the slow continious flow of a leaking water control valve. You can try to clear the ice with a hair dryer, but if the control valve continues to let water buy will have another damaged ice maker. The part number for the water control valve is WR57X10032 and you can enter parts numbers and model numbers on the search feature at the link below. Let me know how thing are and if you were able to get this under control, I am here to help if you like, sorry I just today saw your post, Thanks, Sea Breeze
