I have a Lexmark P4350 and after my PC crashed I am now getting a communication problem when I try to print.
I have tried a different USB cable and it still won't work. The Power light on the printer is constantly on and the Scan facility light is constantly on and the printer will not allow me to select any other menu items. It's as though it has totally frozen up.
I then uninstalled the printer and tried to reinstall using the Installation CD, however now it will not recognise the connected printer.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

You've encountered 1 of the many issues with Vista. The OS is so gargantuan that Microsoft had to ax many of the drivers that were included with XP.

Copy & paste the above URL into your web browser & that will take you right to the driver download page. Select the red highlighted "Driver Download" for the 1200 series printers. This will send you to the Operating System selection page. Once selected you'll see the red highlighted .exe file. Select "download now". You should see a pop-up asking you to save the file. I like to send downloads to the desktop to facilitate installation of the software. You can later drag & drop it into whatever folder you like.
Make sure to remove the XP drivers before installing the Vista drivers. Also remember to unplug the USB cable from the printer prior to installing the Vista drivers. The installation software will prompt you when to re-install the USB cable.
Good luck.

I would suggest to unplug the USb cable and uninstall the software. Reinstall the software with the printer unpluged.
After you have done this turn the systen off, plug in your printer and boot the system with the printer on. A notice will come up saying "Found New Hardware". The system will install the drivers and all should be good. If you have changed the USB port you set it up on you will have the same problem again.

I may be a bit late with this but it worked for me. Uninstall your antivirus, remove any parental controls and disable your firewall. Then, reinstall the printer and download a 2008 version of your anti virus and re-enable your firewall. I haven't reactivated the parental controls just in case it all goes pear shaped.
SOURCE: No communication between computer and printer?
I had the same problem with my X5410, installing on Windows Vista. After about 6 hours of working on it I got it resolved.
I uninstalled the Lexmark software from my computer. Start -All programs-Lexmark -uninstall.
I then turned on all components of Windows Firewall. Control Panel - Windows Firewall.
I then re-installed the Lexmark software from the CD.
Hope this works for you !!!

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.

If
that doesn't help, try the steps below:
1.
Disconnect the printer from your computer.
2.
Rebrick (pull out power supply, black box where the
power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30
seconds).
2.
On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
3.
Delete the Lexmark print object.
4.
Reboot your pc.
5.
When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.
6.
Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control
Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the
list, then try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

may also try to update your printer driver by visiting the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/bETkq1.

I hope this helps.
