Why do I have a "problem with water filling this unit" error?

Water just trickles in then surges over and over.

Years late... The inlet screens could be blocked with sediment from the water supply. Turn off the water taps and disconnect the hoses at the washer. Screens are located in washer inlets. If blocked,, grasp and gently pull them out with pliers. Clean and replace and reconnect water.

MY MAYTAG FRONT LOAD AT TIME WILL FILL WHEN WASHER IS NOT ON OR WILL DRAIN AND SPIN ON IT'S OWN

It may be the water inlet valve is not shutting off the flow 100%. If water keeps trickling in, even dripping, it will eventually fill the drum. Some models have a water level sensor that will run unit thru a drain cycle to prevent an overflow situation. Try checking the unit every 6 or 8 hours to see if there is a slow build up of water accumulation. Replace inlet valve if there is.

Ice maker freezing up

The water line to your unit may need to be replaced. Check how fast water comes out of the dispenser. If it's trickling out or takes 30 seconds to fill the glass, you have poor water pressure to the unit and it's causing the fill tube to freeze.

We have a fluidmaster 200a fill value and the water is just trickling into the tank. should we replace the whole unit?

Yes the 200a is not a anti siphon ballcock and you should have a 400a to keep you water from possibly back flowing into your water system.

The cold water trickles in to fill the tub

sounds like you have checked the water coming out of the cold water so the fill valve requires replacement

Hot water barely trickles into washing machine

Check the hose at the end where it connects to the washer (the inlet valve unit). There may be a screen there also that needs to be replaced or cleaned. If not then the hot water solenoid valve is probably gunked up with the same type of stuff you found in the filter screen. You may be able to clean it enough to get it to work but replacing it is just as easy and not very expensive. (Even cheaper see if you can salvage one from an old machine at the dump or that someone has left at the curb--the units are very standard across many manufacturers in the tU.S.) Both the hot and cold water valves are in the same unit.

Kenmore 90 Series Washer : cold water fills at just a trickle:

your hot water goes through the water heater so contaminates settle in the heater. the cold does not, there is a screen inside the fill valve where the hose hooks to the valve on the machine. if this in not plugged then the fill valve will have to be replaced. because of the build up of contaminates..

Cold water trickles, hot water fills fast as normal

where your water lines connect there is a sc reen inside and if it is clogged with rust lime and or mineral deposit. it needs cleaned out. you can pull it out with a ice pick or something pointy. Check your screen first and if that doesn't fix ya then yes replace the unit.

Dishwasher will not run after filled with water

The float switch in the tank is bad, also if water only trickles in your fill valve is going bad which will not let it fill all the way to start wash cycle. Fill tub with pot of water to raise float, if wash cycle starts, replace fill valve,if not, replace float switch.

Kenmore 80 series overflow

Ok, it sounds either your hose from the water level pressure switch has come off or broke, or the pressure switch itself is bad.

Check the pressure switch hose first.

My tubing came loose and I just duct taped it back on and it works perfectly.

You would need to open your console as shown here:
http://www.applianceblog.com/mainfor...ead.php?t=1081
Pull forward and up on the console and you can hinge it open and hanging from the hinges.

Here is your water level pressure switch:
