This is not a hard drive issue. The hard drive if it was bad would still allow the system to boot up. It sounds like the board is bad on the DVR and you may need a replacement.

What it shows on screen after system initializing? It goes black or?
do you have a manual for it? I think it has a "like computer" options that allows you to click on the start prompting you to an internal menu. Can you try to find this?
let me know,

Bunker hill dvr security

Your problem lies in the hard drive. It no longer is booting the DVR. There is a partition on the drive that holds the operating system so it doesn't get overwritten when the drive fills up with video. You need to contact the manufacturer to get a new hard drive since the software to run the DVR is on the drive.

I have a 4 channel Sunluxy H.264 Network DVR, I have fitted a 300gb HDD but although the system is working and I get the 4 cameras on screen the message I keep getting on boot up is HDD not found

Guys this one stumped me for some time, here is my solution that worked like a dream

1. plug the hard drive you are using into a pc and check the hard drive is recognise and works.
2. Delete all partitions
3. ensure it has a 8 bit cache buffer!! This is the most important one. That means the system only supports older hard drives. I got 2 second hand ones from the local pc store for $50. See the list of hard drives that are know to work below.

MANUFACTURER MODEL CAPACITY ROTATION
ST3320613AS 320GB 7200 rpm
ST33500320AS 500GB 7200 rpm

HITACHI HDT725032VLA360 320GB 7200 rpm
HDS721010KLA330 1000GB 7200 rpm

FYI for some reason the person I bought this off online "Ebay" had no idea how to support and I could not get support from their web site as they email they give just bounces back.

Cheers.

Hi, i put together my own computer, ive got the following components: i7 870 processor CPU 8GB RAM 2TB hard drive (two separate 1TB's) NVIDIA GTX 470 DP55KG extreme motherboard coolmaster 850w...

check the boot order in the bios settings
check the power cord is connected to the hard drive
IS it Sata or IDE hard drive cable ?
Is it a red flat 1/4 inch wide cable (SATA)
or a 50 wire wider grey cable flat ribbon (IDE)

Another more sinister cause could be the bios on the motherboard does not handle the larger 1 Tb hard drives .
Do a google search on the bios chip number to get the motherboard type and check its specs to see if it can handle larger hard drives

Can the progams on a DVR hard drive be saved if the unit is not functioning and has to be replaced? If so, what do I need to do? Please advise.

Hey there! Anthony Thomas with DISH Network Customer Service. Unfortunately when a hard drive goes bad or the box itself won't power up, there is no way to recover the recordings. If a hard reset has not helped (unplugging the receiver for a bit and then plug it back in), then the receiver must be replaced to become operational and the recordings are lost. Not good news, but I hope this helps.

You may want to see what it would take to upgrade to a VIP HD DVR, as those can allow an external hard drive between 50 GB and 1 TB to "back up" recordings (activating the feature costs $40). When backed up though, should the receiver ever need replaced it would not be so devastating as the recordings are safely on the external drive, not to mention you can subscribe to HD! When considering the HDD to purchase, this link may help. http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/setup-ehd

My pelco 16 cameras reset each one minutes

You need to do a INITIALIZATION/REINITIALIZATION PROCEDURE See below for details Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}

If you are installing the DVR, follow the steps below to initialize
the unit as part of the installation instructions in the Installation/
Operation Manual. This procedure erases all data on the hard disk
drive and is necessary to ensure that there is no data that could cause
improper operation when you try to use it. With a clean hard drive, the
DVR can correctly index recorded video with the correct time and date.
Once the DVR is initialized, you should not reinitialize the DVR
again unless you are having trouble finding and playing back video,
and there is no other solution. If you have to reinitialize the DVR, make
sure the time and date are correct before beginning the procedure.
WARNING: When you initialize or reinitialize the DVR:
• The hard disk drive is erased.
• The password and all menu settings return to their default
conditions.
To initialize or reinitialize the DVR:
1. Press and hold the Function button. The Function Key List
appears. Keep holding the Function button.
2. Press and release the 0 button, and then release the Function
button. Enter the password if requested. The Setup Menu
appears.
3. Using the front panel buttons, enter 1220.
4. A screen appears and asks if you want to continue. Use the
Search (<</>>) buttons to highlight Yes or No to erase the
hard disk drive, and then press the Play/Pause button.
PASSWORD
The default password is 0000. If you change the password, and
then forget it, you can get into the system by using 2002.

RCA Directv DVR

For all intents and purposes, your receiver is identical to the Direct TV R-10 (which is also made by RCA). There are TWO POSSIBLE SCENARIOS AND TWO POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS. PLEASE READ BOTH FIRST: Scenario #1 (Applies to 90% of situations) If this is a software issue: There are a number of software issues related to this receiver that Direct TV software engineers have been working on. If the receiver worked well before and then started running slowly unexpectedly, I would lean toward thinking that DirecTV downloaded a software patch that didn't take on your receiver. I would pull up the systems information screen and copy down all information especially the software version number and call DTV technical support to find out if you have the correct software version for your particular machine. There are a few minor difference between yours and an R-10 (like Hard Drive size and memory)which, in a rare case, might cause this problem. TiVo's use the Linux Operating System. A wrong kernel version, or software module can bog everything down. Be aware also, if they cannot fix it by resending and reauthorizing your receiver, the next step would be to do a hard restart. This is the setting in the menu "erase everything" which reformats (re-initializes the drive) You will receive a screen message which says this could take up to an hour (in some rare cases 2) The hard restart/reinitialing will erase all of your recordings and settings. If this doesn't fix the "slow" problem,(you will be able to tell after 3 or 4 days of use) Direct TV will offer to send you a replacement R-10 (which is also TiVo; you pay only the shipping of $19.95 and in some cases they waive that. Scenario #2 (Applies to 10% of situations) Hardware issue. If it can be validated that the correct software version is installed and all systems settings have been reset, reauthorized, and tried without positive results, then this may apply: DVR's save and store programs on a computer Hard Disk Drive. It is possible that slow reaction and response from your DVR is also an early warning sign of a Hard Drive that is beginning to fail and encountering errors and slow data storage (your shows and movies) and recovery. If this is the case, then a new replacement hard drive would be in order (only if you own the receiver and it is not leased) It is easiest to order replacement hard drives off the internet. You can't replace them with just any drive, however. The drive needs to have the Linux OS with the TiVo software kernel installed first and pre-initialized. You can have a professional do it for you or if you are electronically inclined, you can replace the hard drive yourself. Replacement drives normally have instructions included giving you step by step procedures for removing the old and installing the new drive. I order TiVo drives from www.weaknees.com. They are a known and reputable supplier of pre configured Maxtor Hard Drives which are specially designed for Home DVR's (I only recommend Maxtor or Seagate brand Hard Drives and these Maxtors are of special high quality). You may have to get an upgrade to an 70 hour (80GB)drive since your 40GB (35 hour) is harder to find and quite possibly no longer in production or available. If you want, you can send your receiver to weaknees and they can professionally install and configure everything for you. (Weaknees is located in Los Angeles, Ca) I have no interest in them, but I am satisfied that they know what they are doing. I hope this information helps you. Good Luck and best regards, Eric,
