Why does Symbol LS 4000i put an X before data?

SOURCE: Barcode scanner scans and beeps, but will not put the numbers in the computer

First:
a) Do you have the scanner connected to an Y cable ?
If yes, you need to connect to the PS/2 port on the computer and you have to connect another 101 keys keyboard
/ PS/2 computer port
scanner ----
\ 101 keys keyboard.

restart the computer and will work.
the system will include the driver in the keyboards.
Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard

b) if you do not have the Y cable:
just install the driver : Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard

Hello, it looks like the scanner lost the settings. As power is there, so connection is ok. The several (four) beeps after reading the barcode means communication error.
Please try to find the original sheet with configuration barcodes or download it from support.symbol.com website, you would need to scan the barcode for IBM PC/AT & IBM Compatibles from Keyboard Wedge Chapter.

yes - if you are in excel you need to set the parameters on the scanner/software before hand - you can find software for this on the motorola web site
