i had the same problem and i replaced the defrost heater and it worked fine for about one month but now having the same issue. Most of the time from what I have heard it is the defrost heater (about $60 part). I might have another issue going on with mine like a defrost thermostat. Your defrost heater is right under the panel on the inside of the freezer section. remove white panel on back side of freezer section and remove two screws and two wires and replace it and you should be fine.

check the door gasket to see if theres any tears or if its dirty, also check the coil on the back to see if theres any dirt on it if so it needs to be cleaned.

Just the fist indication that defrost is not taking place. Most likely the defrost heater and defrost thermostat will need replaced. part number Click Here=> WR51X10101 for heater and will be easy to spot if burned out and you should also replace the defrost thermostat just in case part number Click here=> WR50X10068 Let me know if you need assistance, you may reach me through Appliance 911 or Sea Breeze Appliance Parts and Technical Services

Hey friend, I appreciate the post!
I understand that your refrigerator is defrosting but you are getting a patch of ice to form due to water leaking inside the freezer. It may be a moisture build up in your freezer. Which may be caused by the door being slightly opened, when that happens warm air can enter the refrigerator and cause a moisture build up. You could also check to see if your door seal is bad, the way to test that is to place a dollar bill between the body of the refrigerator and close to the door. Pull the dollar bill out, if it sticks it is good, but if bill comes out easily the gasket need to be checked. Hope this is helpful- Matt
