The front seal of washer holds water and it smells!
It seem the smell coming from my front load washer is from the front seal. This area retains water, Is this a defect? Should I report this, I have a warranty?

My GE washer model wcvh6400j0ww was leaking. May be standing water under your machine. The repair person
thought the gasket. It turned out to be the water in-let
pipe
(WH41X10118 and you will need seal WH41X10119) and not the gasket. He
ordered the gasket and took machine apart to replace and found cracked
pipe. Take your machines front off and make sure it is the gasket
leaking. Good Luck,
This is a Maytagism for this style of washer. Quick solution... take a terry towel and wipe out the standing water in the front door seal area and when you're done, toss the towel into the wash load. Also make the loads a little smaller...it will keep the smell from reoccuring as much.
Mold and bacteria in your door seal is a symptom of problems deeper inside the unit. All washers - not just Whirlpool, have this problem. The area of worst buildup is always on the inside of the plastic outer tub just above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up and don't get rinsed out. To clean this problem area add 1 or 2 caps of smelly washer cleaner to a full load of laundry. The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the "splash area". Intermittently pause to soak more extreme cases.
I had similar problem, the front door seal can trap small items, socks, handtowels. I didnt figure this out for some months, each load of clothes had a foul, mildew smell, Check door seal for trapped clothes, run intermittent cycles with bleach only, no clothes, be sure to leave door open when not in use to air out , this will reduce smell.
Run it a couple times on hot water with bleach in it. Should help. Also run through with dishwasher detergent in it. This helps clean too. I leave door ajar to allow air in washer. You can also purchase cleaner just for this at parts place.
