Try Windows7 instead of XP, since XP doesn't support SATA drivers to read your HDD

SOURCE: Biostar TA790GXE 125M keeps shuting down when I boot windows, on SATA and IDE hard drives

Run the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

SOURCE: I'm installing a biostar a78ldm2s and everything turns on but I keep getting a read disk error on the hard drives that I try to use. I've tried 5 different hard drives and get the same result.

Hello here you can download a manual:

http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/support/download.php

By entering the right mainboard number.

Try to set the bios to factory settings.Load default settings.
And set the boot order: first boot device:dvd, second, the harddrive.
If you are using a IDE drive make sure its set as master.
A sata drive does not have that function.
Make sure the windows disk is clean and without scratces.

Here is a youtube video that shows you how:

The cd window indicate err. why

A disk read error is very common; it usually occurs as soon as your computer boots up from SSD, HDD or another hard drive and has affected a large number of users of Windows 10/8/7/XP.
This error has the message "A disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" on the screen like the picture below:
This message indicates that your hard drive has a problem when the operating system attempts to read the disk. That is, the disk is preventing the computer from entering into its operating systems.
Simply put, a disk error could be caused by several reasons such as incorrect boot order, BIOS issue, IDE cables failure, incorrect MBR configuration, faulty hard drive, etc.
When meeting such an issue, no matter how many times you restart your computer by pressing "Ctrl+Alt+Del" keys, this error still exists.
In the presence of this issue, it will still exist regardless of how many times you restart your computer by pressing "Ctrl+Alt+Del". In fact, a disk read error is not a problem that can be solved by a simple restart. But don't worry, this post will tell you top seven useful solutions to a disk read error occurred SSD.
How to Fix Disk Read Error Windows XP/7/8/10

Solution 1: Boot OS from Hard Drive

If a disk error occurred, the first thing to do is to check whether the boot order is correct in BIOS.
There are different ways to get into BIOS in different computer models and operating systems. When turning on the computer, the first boot screen will usually show you what key to press to go into the BIOS.
You can refer to this guidance How to Enter The BIOS On Your Computer. Once you are in BIOS, find the boot order section. In the boot order section, check to make sure the correct hard drive is placed as the first boot priority before any others in the listing.
Changing this setting might be enough to help your computer boot normally. If it is still unbootable, try the next solution to fix disk error occurred.

Solution 2: Reset or Upgrade BIOS

Resetting your computer BIOS to default or upgrading to the latest version might be able to solve "A disk read error occurred" in Windows XP/7/8/10.
Here is the step-by-step guide to reset BIOS:
  1. Press a specific key (F2, F8, F12, Esc or Del) according to your computer model and OS to enter into BIOS.
  2. Find the option to reset BIOS to default.
Tip: The option name is different depending on different computer manufacturers and BIOS versions, which can be "Load BIOS Defaults", "Load Default Settings", "Load Fail-Safe Defaults", "Load Setup Default" or "Get Default Values". Choose one according to the real case, then save this change.
If the disk read error on boot up persists, try the following solution.

Solution 3: Repair Master Boot Record and Boot Sector

A corrupted or damaged Master Boot Record or boot sector could cause disk errors. Therefore, repairing the MBR or boot sector might be able to fix the issue"A disk read error occurred" with USB boot.
You can use a professional and reliable partition and disk management tool - MiniTool Partition Wizard - to repair your MBR in Windows XP/7/8/10.
As a dedicated partition manager, MiniTool Partition Wizard could be used for many operations such as resize/move/extend/copy/wipe partition, rebuild MBR, migrate OS to SSD/HD, copy disk, recover lost partition, perform data recovery, and so on.
Here we strongly recommend MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Ultimate Edition. This edition has a feature called "Bootable Media" based on Win-PE; it is designed to manage disks and partitions when the operating system fails to boot or when there is no operating system.

Intel D102GGc2 shows disk read error when detached sata dvd writer and xp boot when attached the same

Hi. if you're getting the same 'disk read error' when the DVD drive is attached and detached, then the error relates to the hard disk, that you're supposedly trying to install XP onto.
Ultimately you want the board to boot the DVD drive first. A quick change to the 'Boot priority' in the BIOS should sort it.

Hello, ive just bought a brand new motherboard (GS7610 ULTRA) and i have installed it into my case with all my components and when i go to start my computer up, it goes pasted the boot menu and then i get...

Are you trying to install this OS (Operating System) , or is it already installed on a hard drive?
If you are installing it, make sure you change the boot order to the optical drive (DVD drive). If it's already installed, was it installed with an OEM disk? If yes, then you might need a new Windows XP disc. This is because, when using an OEM disc, if you change the hard drive or motherboard, it doesn't really work.

Solutions

Computer is booting from a non-bootable source

Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CD-ROM. First verify that no floppy diskette or CD is in the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette.

Note: This error has also been known to occur when a memory stick is in a card reader and the computer is attempting to boot from it. If you have any card reader or flash reader make sure that no memory stick is inside the computer. Additionally disconnect all USB drives, cameras, ipods, iphones, etc. from the computer.

If you are attempting to boot from a floppy diskette and are receiving this error message it is likely that the diskette does not have all the necessary files or is corrupt.

If you are attempting to install Windows XP or Windows 2000 and are receiving this error message as the computer is booting verify that your computer BIOS has the proper boot settings. For example, if you are attempting to run the install from the CD-ROM make sure the CD-ROM is the first boot device, and not the hard disk drive.

Second, when the computer is booting you should receive the below prompt.

Press any key to boot from the CD

Important: When you see this message press any key such as the Enter key immediately, otherwise it will try booting from the hard drive and likely get the NTLDR error again.

Note: If you are not receiving the above message and your BIOS boot options are set properly it's also possible that your CD-ROM drive may not be booting from the CD-ROM properly. Verify the jumpers are set properly on the CD-ROM drive.

Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS

Verify that your computer hard disk drive is properly setup in the CMOS setup. Improper settings can cause this error.

Hope this help you...This is in relation to what your error code means, you'll need to check against the list.
  • Error 0x00000024 - This problem may occur if there is a conflict between Windows XP SP1 and the display adapter drivers that are currently installed.
  • Error 0x00000004 - occurs because your computer processor detected and reported an unrecoverable hardware error to Windows
  • Error 0x0000007b - occurs if your computer is infected with a boot-sector virus.
  • Error 0x80004005 - occurs because the account that is being used to access the page does not have access to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC registry key.
  • Error 0xc0000005 - occurs because of memory corruption.
  • Error 0xc0000034 - caused by a missing system file (usually Ntdll.dll in the %systemRoot%\system32 directory.
  • Error 0xc0000006 - occur if there is not enough free hard disk space on the NTFS-compressed hard disk partition when the SIS filter tries to read compressed back pointer data streams from the SIS volume.
Another common reason can be malware and spyware that penetrate to your computer registry and started destroying it... that's why it's so important you fix your registry right now!

What does ' a disk read error occurred press ctr alt del to restart, everytime i do it it gives me the same error??

You could have a hard drive problem. To check the hard drive boot up to the Windows XP cd in repair mode. At the C prompt type: chkdsk /r
This will start a program called Check Disk that will evaluate your hard drive and attempt to fix any errors. it Check Disk is successful it will complete 100% and return to a C prompt. You can then attempt to reboot. If Check Disk finds unrecoverable errors you will need to purchase a new hard drive and rebuild the OS.
