The date and time (and a lot more) are stored with every picture in its EXIF metadata. Any photo viewing/editing program should be able to display this data. To print this data, please consult the documentation for whatever program you're using to print your pictures. Depending on the program and printer you may print the date on the image, in the margins, or on the back.

Try removing battery from camera then wait 10 seconds before installing. This action resets camera.
If no work, locate your camera software version. Procedure should be in manual, else could probably find it in a google search. Then locate latest version with a google search, or panasonic camera website, or call to customer service and ask.
It you do not have latest version, ask customer service how to download it.

it will show up on the exif and in windows too. personally i am glad it does not blend it in on the photo. and if you have to prove you can always shoot a newspaper headline and one news item of that day

The only solution is to learn japanese. I asked at the store - since the prices are considerably lower than in Europe - and was told by the competent clerk that only some Sony and Cannon cameras have a dual mode, i.e. Japanese and English

The language setting is the last option on the setup menu. Press menu, then right side of the rocker for setup, then up for language, then right to set and up or down to select English, then menu to exit.
