You might try "resetting" your machine. It is not difficult; however, I cannot get my copy of instructions on here. If you like, you may email me and I should be able to provide the instructions to you.
When your Memory Craft 8000 or MC 5700 is otherwise working fine but the LCD display screen begins to grow darker and you find you just can't read it, the only thing you can do is replace the LCD screen, or buy a new machine. Janome no longer stock this item direct, but there is an affordable replacement available. But first there are some questions about whether there are also issues with stitch selecting IN ADDITION to the dark screen, to ensure you would actually benefit from the repacement.

From what I've read here, it could be one of two things: a blown motherboard or a scratched bobbin case.
Before you do anything else, I'd remove the bobbin case, clean it and the area around it thoroughly (and check it for scratches or dings -- perhaps a needle broke recently?) and then replace it and see if that fixes the error.
If not, unfortunately, I'll bet it's time for a check-up with a repairman. :(
