Goto control panel, select Language and regional settings, Select keyboard and check if proper keyboard is selected. It should be En-US or your regional keyboard type to get proper characters typed.
Sounds like the laptop keyboard went bad and thats why its typing wrong characters. Best way to verify this is to use a USB keyboard on the laptop, if the USB keyboard is typing the correct keys then you know the laptop keyboard is bad. If the USB keyboard is typing the wrong keys as well then you know its a setting in windows that is causing the keys to type wrong characters.
Does it type " by any chance when you press the @ key? if so this is
usually because keyboard input is set to the wrong language in the
regional & language settings are wrong in the control panel. try
pressing the left alt key & shift at same time first this is a
quick key to change between input languages.
check the pitch setting to make sure that it matches the printwheel. It is the switch that is marked 10, 12, 15, PS. PS is proportional spacing and will only type correctly with a PS wheel. The number settings are for PICA ELITE and MICRO.. 10, 12 and 15. The numbers are characters per inch...so the larger the number, the smaller the character.. it is the opposite of FONT SIZE.
Does it always type the same wrong letter ie
a always prints u or w ? if so the print wheel drive gear is out of position. if not and it get random letters some thing may be interfering with the wheel rotation.
