Have a SONY BRAVIA 37 INCH TV model KDL-37U4000. Recently the picture has become quite dark with faces having an orange colour. Tried adjusting the problem with the TOOLS button to no avail. Any ideas ?

I have a Scientific Atlanta cable box w/ Time Warner. I followed the instructions below for the cable box. Somehow it reset my picture and I can now read the ticker at the bottom of the screen and the different picture sizes seem to work properly. Good Luck.

To wayne: The balancer board is in fact available by itself. You can get it at many different parts depots here on the web. I just suffered from a similar problem, on the same tv and it solved my problem perfectly (Stupid 13 blink, blink code...)
The searchable part number is
SSB400WA20. Its referred to as a voltage inverter (for the backlight of the lcd panel.)

In most cases is the screen is covered with vertical lines all the way accross the screen then the T-Con module is at fault. The t-con board is replaceable without having to replace the entire LCD panel which would usually make it cheaper than replacing the TV. The part number I come up with is 1-857-213-11. That symptom may cause by the main board or t-con board, I suggest you do software up grade first.

it sounds like your back light might be going out. You might be able to fix this by installing a new backlight inverter board.
