The drum in my kenmore quietpak 2 washer seems like its come detached from something banging around like crazy. Clearly something is broken. The back spring seems fine but the drum is really wobbly. The hard plastic under the rubber around the front of the drum is breaking off. Any ideas what I can look for? This mom of 6 needs her washer

sounds like support springs for the drum have become detached or broken. Do not use, suggest new machine as old ones not worth the investment.

Possibly a broken bracket we see this happen frequently, with this type of model the parts are kinda high for this repair, look at picture in bubble.could be the shocks I don't think so.

bearings out big big cost to repair if not under warranty call kenmore to check your warranry. if no warranty buy new washer

sounds like th bracket on the back of the basket has broken. just replaced mine and itwas abit ofa bear. teardown is all from the back and itis almost a complete teardown, remove back panel and top, remove struts on the lower drum assembly, remoive drive belt. the large drum assembly has a bunch of screws tht holdit together(heads aretoward the front of the waser) remove all of the lower screws, removeth springs from the top of the drum ssemblyand remove he srings. take out thescrews fron th top halfof the drum assembly. the back half should now comeout. remove the bolt holding te drive pully onto the drum assembly then th plastic drum assemblycan b removed from thebassket. the back of the basket has a bracket on it I bet itis broken. this is a 200 dolar part, (basket) and replacementis the reversal ofremoval. it is a difficult and somewhat time consuming repair butit was well worth it for me

Check the Vibration damper rods to be sure that...
1. They are there and mount is solid.
2. If they are broken in 1/2.
3. The plastic knuckle mounts are not missing/broken.
4. There is oil in the shock absorber/spring section of the rods.

Also - there are suspension springs on the bottom of the tub that could be broken and/or missing.

Replace/repair as necessary.

2 possible issues with your washer.
1 or both the support shocks or springs have broken
the drum would look off center even when empty
or rear bearring has worn out.
this is a very common problem with the fridgidaire washer... (this kenmore is a frigidaire model)
problem is caused by very hard water (well water) or improper use of detergent. this machine uses a High efficency type detergent, marked by "HE" on the detergent container

SOMETHING ON THE SUSPENSION IS OBVIOUSLY BUSTED,  YOU JUST HAVEN'T LOCATED IT YET.

Drum bearings may have given up.

make sure all shipping pins are out the tub should move all around from side to side if it level still bangs its eather the balance ring top basket are there 3 slides on a plate above the motor just put some silacone oil on tham move around
